Anyways, why does this work? I discovered this in middle school after one of our moves and there's a billion flies in the house. Take a long piece of tape and slowly hover it over the fly and stick it to a wall. It won't try to fly away or anything. Honey fly don't care.. until it's too late. nem-x fucked around with this message on 09-10-2011 at 12:34 AM.
The tape reminds the fly of its mother's proboscis immediately following birth, as it was used to clean and comfort the newborn creature. As such, they are conditioned from birth to trust the tape's nurturing instincts.
You're essentially fooling the fly into thinking it may have one more tender moment in its short life, then smothering it with a sticky adhesive not unlike real parents do once the fly has left the nest.
