It's comping to a time where I'm going to get a new machine. My current has not been that great due to having dust problems (in a holy fuck where did this dust come from house) and replacing the videocard about three or four times.

Is liquid cooling going to help with such problems? I do try to keep my tower/work space clean but it has still not helped much.

Seems over kill IMHO.

How much damn dust are you getting? You live in a concrete plant or something? most of my cards have always had a thermal protection and shut themselves off when they over heat.

Dust filter, regularly cleaned.

Job done.

1. Dust filter, clean every 3-6 months.
2. Get your PC off the floor. Even a couple of inches of elevation will drastically cut down on the dust it sucks in.
3. Dust begets dust. If you've got absolutely coated heat sinks, remove them, remove the fan, and wash them in warm, soapy water, give them plenty of time to air dry before reinstallation. If you are not comfortable with this, then take them out and use the old air-can method, but it will not be as effective.

For reinstallation, if he wanted to go the extra mile (Assuming the soapy water method), would it not be best to use some form of gloves (latex, nitrile, vinyl, etc) so as to cut down on fingerprint grease, and thus avoid more dust?

Or am I being too clean thinking with that one?

Water cooling systems really aren't all that big a deal anymore guys.

They're actually pretty neat and they do eliminate the dust issue.

True, and due to not having A/C in philly, I'd love to switch to watercooling (FANS ARE LOUD SOMETIMES), but I'd rather put in the personal maintenance time and save myself dropping the cash on a cooling system.

A decent case (any of Antec's 70 - 110$ range) will eliminate all but the most ridiculous of fan noise, and severely diminish anything that remains.

That, and not keeping your case on top of your desk, within arm's reach.

You should handle the heat sink by the flat sides, not the slotted sides, and you will get no finger oil the fin surfaces.
