I'm breaking down and getting a Kindle (I need it shortly and the Nook won't ship till Jan).

I've got a few questions.

1) Is it worth getting the warranty?
2) Is it worth the extra $50 to get it new instead of referb? Do you notice your battery life suffering or whatnot over time?
3) Anything else I should know?

Just bought a DX myself.

1. Warranty is stupid; it overlaps the 1 year manufacturer warranty, only covers 1 accident, and does not cover the battery..
2. I bought a refurb because it's $90 of savings on the DX; I wouldn't buy a refurb if I was just buying the 6" Kindle.
3. If something breaks, don't tell their techs what's wrong, just tell them it doesn't work anymore and say someone gave it to you for Christmas or something; if you give them a detailed accounting, they won't help you (advice of a techie friend who made the mistake of giving too much detail)

What made you choose the DX above the standard? If you had to do it again, would you still buy it?

The wife wants it for reading while she works out and the larger screen mimics the size of our larger novels, both in font size and page size. If we buy another, it'll be a 6" because I'd rather be able to pop it in my pocket; I don't personally need the size but the wife does.

Kindle is pretty much the best investment I ever made. It's way easy to carry around, fits nicely in most jacket pocket and is pretty cool all around. Plus, there's nothing better than seeing a book that you want and getting it immediately.

Plus there's nothing better than reading a book and not having anyone interrupt you to talk about the book you're reading because they won't know what book you're reading.

While I don't particularly care, my wife is deeply irritated that Harry Potter is not available for the Kindle. Apparently, J.K. Rowling is a fucking tardbaby and forbade production of an e-book release.
