    Nice Livejournal.

But seriously, you kissed a dude? That's cool. There are gay Republicans; you shouldn't be ashamed.

I seem to remember gay advocates complaining about it being repealed. Something about making it even more difficult on gays in the military since it's an acceptable topic of open discussion.

There doesn't seem to be a perfect solution here. Even if someone could convince the higher ups to discipline the shit out of people that go out of line harassing gay servicemen and protect subordinates who need to report their superiors for it, there would still probably be abuses and loopholes

I'm sure that I'm inviting a lecture from Bloodsage here, which I'd assume is warranted given how little I know about military protocol

DADT is generally considered to be discriminating against homosexuals by GLBT groups. I've really never heard of any gay rights groups supporting it.

The policy specifically prohibits individuals who "demonstrate(s) a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts" from serving in the military.

And, yes, it was signed into official military policy by the executive order of one William Jefferson Clinton.

But I'm pretty sure rabid Republicans are more likely to boot people out of the party for wanting to overturn it right now. Although not by much.

There's certainly a movement to kick SOME people out, though whether said movement is a takeover or a reassertion depends on who you ask.

A recently proposed party litmus test would render pro-choice, anti-war, or otherwise socially libertine republicans personae non gratis. Someone on high certainly seems to think the party needs to lean more pro-big government and not place such an uncomfortable emphasis on allowing folks to run their own lives - to lean more to the left, in other words.

Log Cabin Republicans are blaming NY Democrats for the failure of the Same-Sex Marriage Bill.

And how many NY Republicans voted for it? Zero. So obviously, Republicans are blaming Democrats for not getting enough Republicans to vote yes on the bill.

The Democrats who voted no on this are fuckers too, but not a single Republican voted for it. There's a trend going on here.
