We're collecting a bunch, writing up a point-by-point rebuttal, inserting that, then passing them back out again.

I'll see if I can shanghai one from the group stockpiles for you if we get more than we really need.

Oh wow. Kirk Cameron has finally achieved the incredible feat of being smugger than the average atheist.

But hey...free book.

Well, finally a book we atheists can wipe our asses with. Contrary to popular belief, atheists do not befoul the Bible in such ways--those gilded edges hurt.

This made me giggle. A lot.

But the scary part is that people take the guy seriously.

I want to know how Hitler has anything to do with evolution.

Hitler has nothing to do with it to my knowledge, but someone with intelligence to ask that probably isn't their target audience. Basically, it's a bash the person who has an opposing opinion rather than the opinion itself tactic. I'm sure they will play it off as using it as a background basis to understand the views of the author on the subject material.

Nothing, really. But a lot of Nazi racial thinking (for lack a better word) tended to draw from eugenics (find the best breeding stock and let 'em copulate like horny rabbits, while discouraging or eliminating the reproduction of less desirable populations) and neo-Darwinism (the strong survive, the weak go under).

Hardly Darwin's fault that after his death a bunch of racist nutbags and criminals crib some of his ideas and distort them beyond all recognition.

Yeah, but in a weird way, doesnt Hitler's ideas somehow prove the theory of evolution?

You know, isolate the traits you deem most valuable as best you can, and then breed individuals with similar traits to gain the proposed outcome?

Yeah, Hitler is evil, but the fact that he used genetics as a platform doesnt falsify the basics of genetics as a science.

No, it doesn't invalidate genetics as a science in any way, however practical applications can lead to some sticky ethical conundrums, not to mention practices that most decent people would consider horrible.

I remember learning about genetics back in elementary school (when dinosaurs roamed the earth) and reading about how in Europe there was region that had a particularly high incidence of a certain form of congenital retardation. After people with the condition were sterilized, the incidence of this condition dropped practically to zero. This was treated as entirely normal and not criticized at all in the textbook. These days, every pipe in the moral calliope would sound off about the gross violation of human rights.

Just goes to show you how times change.

The concepts behind eugenics were known to man for millennia before Darwin worked them into his theory of evolution.

It seems to be en vogue in the States to compare stuff you do not like to Hitler.

Bush = Hitler
Obama = Hitler
Evolution = Hitler

Well, you gotta admit, it's pretty easy. It's a little harder to explain that Evolution = Napoleon.
