Topic: Graphics Card!

So I bought a whole new computer. Whenever I play WoW, after a while my graphics start shitting themselves and putting random skins all over the place. Stretched out faces where the ground should be, weird random colors, shit like that. If I tab out of WoW and back in, or zone into a new zone, it fixes itself for five minutes or so and does it again.

Do you think that's an overheating issue, or an issue with the drivers? Or does WoW just hate my graphics card?

It's probably not drivers. It could be bad RAM, or a heating problem with the video card. This exact problem happened to me with bad RAM but that's harder to test.

Make sure the video card has pretty good clearance and that nothing is blocking the fan. What kind of card is it? Does it have temperature monitor software?

Try running the repair utility that WOW comes with.

I had an issue like this and it ended up being my power supply.

So a power supply, bad ram, or your video card is fucked.
Also it might be your motherboard.

I'm voting against bad RAM. Bad RAM would get you tons of crashes to desktop, random blue screens, and certainly wouldn't fix itself for a few minutes from alt-tabbing.

Was it a dell with an ATI card by chance?

Run Prime95 overnight. If your computer doesn't blow it's brains out then it's probably not ram.

Run 3DMark overnight. If your computer doesn't blow it's brains out then it's probably not your graphics card.

'Proving' that your hardware is good is difficult. Becoming reasonably confident that it isn't bad is slightly less so.

Since this seems to be a good place to post computer problems, thought I'd post one I'm having here:

My brother's computer won't boot up. This happened once with starting up World of Warcraft, and just happened tonight with Warhammer. Last time, however, the computer managed to fix itself. Somehow.

This time, we're fucked. The computer boots up with a corrupted picture. The initial black screen has these glitched red boxes seemingly laid out in a pattern across portions of screen and the next screen, the HP screen, has strings of what looks like white pixels up and down the screen.

Various other screens also have a glitched appearance, and the computer will not boot into windows.

Recently we upgraded the power supply, so we're pretty sure it isn't that. Even then, the computer managed to repair itself once, which makes it seem like something on the hard drive.

so. Hard drive corruption? Corrupted memory? Fucked up video card?

Edit: We can get it into safe mode, but the computer seems to be ridiculously slow while in safe mode.

No. I put it together. It's an AMD dual core with a FXF Geforce 8800 GTS.

Fucked mobo or fucked video it sounds like.
