Question: Are these characters plot characters from the expansions, or were they made specifically for the cinematic?

The main Alliance guy is Bolvar Fordragon. The main Horde guy is Saurfang the younger. The forsaken guy is specifically for the quest, his name is Putress.

bigga spoila: Essentially, Varimathras, with Kil'jaeden's help, manages to take control over a sect of the Forsaken Apothecary Society and take over the Undercity. With this quest chain, as Horde, you go to a special version of the Undercity to take on Varimathras, and the Alliance takes care of Putress, as well as tries to reclaim Lordaeron for the Alliance under Varian Wrynn's command.

It doesn't have a cool cinematic, but the Death Knight starter quest that ends with the Lich King running like a bitch from Tirion is pretty awesome too.
