You've managed to get me to buy a 60 GB Xbox 360, which includes a HDMI port.

You've managed to get me to buy GTA 4 and Soul Calibur IV with it.

You had me thinking I could just plug the HDMI cable my cable box uses to connect the 360 to my LCD TV.

You probably chuckled to yourself as I drove home from Best Buy.

You probably found it very amusing that with the HD AV cable that comes with the 360, has a connector that *just* big enough to keep my HDMI cable from plugging into the 360's HDMI port with it connected.

You're probably already counting the additional money I will need to spend on the official HDMI cable.

Well played, well played.

The 360 Elite that I got comes with an official HDMI cable, and even it doesn't fit into the HDMI port at the same time as the multimedia connector.

At first I thought this thread was about the Windows "Mojave" experiment, which is hilarious.

Shenanigans. This must be a falsehood, sir.

It's possible that I may be a newb still when it comes to HDMI.

Go ahead and laugh at me, but... the HDMI cable carries audio as well as video?

Such that, if I use the HDMI cable to plug it into my TV, which has it's own speakers, I don't need anything in the AV port?

Well, I just saved fifty dollars and a butter knife. Thank you.

You didn't laugh at me, though. I feel really foolish (even more so since I had HDMI and audio cables connected to my cable box), and as such I feel I deserve to be laughed at.

The only time you'd have to mod the cable is if you have an HDTV and an SD receiver, or an HD receiver with no HDMI.

Next question: Horizontal, or vertical? It has plenty of space (a few inches to spare on each side - it's in the same spot my Xbox was, and it's smaller than the Xbox) on the shelf I have it on. Should I put it vertical, or leave it horizontal for better reliability?

How do people here have theirs?

The "horizontal for better reliability" is an urban myth.

Mine is vertical after I took it around someone elses house and discovered I got far less disk read errors with it in that position with a lightly scratched game disc.

I forgot a comma - I meant to ask "Should I put it vertical, or leave it horizontal, for better reliability?"

It wasn't a myth with the PS2, though I keep mine horizontal due to cooling issues and space is not a factor for me. Also superstition.

Mine didn't come with an HDMI cable. Just those oddly colored red/blue/green cables that fit along with the standard V/L/R cables and a switch. Not sure what I'd do with an HDMI, though. I'll try it sometime in the future as I already have a 32' HDTV...

and if I can get off of Vendetta Online long enough to do it.

Even then you'd only need to if your HDTV didn't have an audio out of it's own. On mine I run the HDMI cable to the TV then have an optical cable running from the TV to the SD receiver.
