Twitter seems like an easy solution to start, but I've been thinking of a bloggy-type thing for a bit. What's the best blog software/service. I note that TypePad has an iPhone app up, so it'd be easy to do while mobile.
Essentially what I'm looking to do is find a way to chronicle my adventures for my close friends and family without having to resort to e-mail (I do so much at work I just can't force myself to do it at home, too), a newsletter (no time, and I hate that once-a-year crap), or a full-blown web site (no time to manage).
Important additional criteria are that I hate ads--I'd rather pay a fee to have only shit I want on my page--and I want some way to control access (yes I said that, but it's important).
Any thoughts, O wise and wonderific peoples behind various curtains for a variety of reasons?

Thanks; I'll look into it. Do you know if there's an iPhone client to update it? I'm looking to do initial setup at my desk, but many or most updates from around and about via my iPhone.
You can set up a "mail-to-blogger" address, where any e-mail you send it will instantly be posted to your blog. I e-mail posts to my blog from my phone pretty often. It doesn't require any stand alone client.
What about photos?

While I really like Blogger's ability to white list via e-mail address as opposed to TypePad's username/password concept. . .TypePad seems by far superior in terms of being really easy to put together a nice site.
Is there an advantage to Blogger that isn't simply the fact that it's free?
Edit:
Good thing I decided to try them out; Blogger seems to require that on turn on cookies in general, not just allow them from blogger.com. Goes into an infinite redirect loop when trying to view the actual blog (I can get to the control panel okay), just because I have my cookies set to "Ask." How stupid is that?
Looks like Blogger may be a non-starter. Bloodsage fucked around with this message on 07-20-2008 at 04:13 PM.

I've never used or looked at typepad so I don't know if it's got the same mms/email capabilities or if you can create your own layout by editing the html template directly.
I was just wondering if there was something I was missing in evaluating Blogger. I have no intention of becoming mired in the Google infrastructure, to tell the truth, since I don't buy a word of their corporate motto given the amount of data they collect and compile on people.
Appreciate the help figuring out what to do, though.

Ooh, I just realized that when I send a blog update via the iPhone TypePad app, it also send a tweet with a link to the update to my Twitter account. The master plan comes together nicely.
My dad's coming out for my promotion ceremony next week, and this'll be a cool way for my mom to follow the action through Twitter and the blog.
