I'm at my parents house and I am moving their computer from the basement to the living room. Instead of buying a megaton of wire to run to a switch and drill some holes in the wall (two other computers are connected to it), I was thinking of just buying a wireless router.

I don't know for sure if that's what I need though since I've never done this before. Would I only need to buy the wireless router and nothing else? Do the other computers need anything or do wireless routers come with the usb antenna like my wireless mouse did?

You need some type of 802.11 receiver for your computer. Routers generally don't come packaged with them.

I recently set up a wireless deal in my place too as there was no logical way to run cord to where my computer is from where the cable modem is. so first off, you need that modem. then you need a wireless router. I bought this. Then you need a wireless card if your computer doesn't already have one. I bought this

It was pretty easy to set up. after you install their software and plug everything in, just tell windows you want to set up a network connection and use the wizard to do it for you. easy as pie.

I use these exact things and can safely say that they rock.

Norim bought the higher-speed equipment. For normal use, I have always found 802.11g (as per Greenlit's post) more than adequate. Just keep in mind that, if you use 2600 MHz wireless phones in your house, they may interfere with your wireless router.

I've found that if this type of interference happens, if you just adjust the channel on which the wireless network broadcasts it can sometimes remedy the conflict.
