Guy Fawkes was a badass. He was sentanced to be hung, drawn, and quartered, a very painful process where they hang you (a short drop, only to strangle, not to break your neck) until you're nearly dead, then tie you to a table, cut off your balls and penis, burn them in front of you, then pull out your intestines and slowly burn those in front of you. Finally you die from the pain or exsanguination, whichever hits you first, and you're chopped into 5 pieces and sent over the country as a warning

Guy Fawkes jumped right before the platform went out from under his feet, and fell far enough for his neck to break.
