The only version of SF currently worth playing (Third Strike) has four shotos; Ryu, Ken, Akuma and Sean. Ryu and Ken are spaced and balanced so far apart at this point that you can barely compare them, and Sean just sucks so he's a non-issue.
Akuma is the only one who bares any resemblance to any others, and that's because he's fucking Akuma. He is the evil Ryu. Sean is the retarded Ken and Akuma is the evil Ryu.
Meanwhile you've got Yun and Yang who are inexcusably carbon copy of eachother.
Also, I actually like Alpha 3 a lot. What system is 3rd Strike for, anyways?

Pretty much.
Ken/Ryu and Guile were pretty much my staples. Once SFII:The New Challengers came out though it was pretty much Cammy or Ken exclusively. Cammy was a cheap bitch + Eye candy, and Ken was familiar.
I never could get into playing Chun Li though, never got her spaztasticness to work for me. Although when it came to consoles with a training mode I did enjoy putting her as the challenger and turning off her AI so she just stood there while I beat the crap out of her for funfactor and fanservice. 
I kept trying to rent Third Strike through GameFly but it was always out, ALWAYS. 
I still haven't gotten to play it.

I primarily use Sagat, Vega, and Guile.
Friend of mine plays exclusively with Deejay in anything with him and Alex in Third Strike.
Guy that beat me in the local finals (For Third Strike) a while back did so with Yun.

I have no doubt that I could kick most of your asses in that game.
After that the series got silly. 
Hell, back in Street Fighter 2 he took more damage than any other character per hit, was slow, and his best move was turning into a ball and throwing himself at you.
If either of them get pulled back into action you just know someone's gonna get their shit pushed in.
I miss guilty gear... and it looks like GG2: Overture isn't going to be a fighting game

Accent Core is actually a very nice improvement to the series, I think. It solidifies a lot of stuff and shines it up a little bit. It's still the same game though, unfortunately. At least it's cheap.
