Ive started to play Icewind Dale recently and I was wondering if there is a key to make interactable things highlight like in Baldur's Gate. Iirc it was the Alt key, and in the instruction manual for Icewind Dale II it says the alt key does that, but nothing happens when I press it in Icewind Dale. I also don't see any "customize keys" option anywhere. Any ideas?

In the first one?

There isn't a customize option in game that I know of -- Infinity Engine games have always had most of the customizations happen outside of the game via a separate program. Try checking in the start menu folder/in the game's folder for a "config" thing. If it isn't there, try putting the CD in and see if you get a customize option.

You are correct sir, there is a list of customizable keys in the Configure Icewind Dale program. However, none of them have anything to do with highlighting interactable objects

Thank you, though, for the suggestion!

Have you tried Tab?

EDIT: Nevermind, feature wasn't added until the Heart of Winter expansion: http://archive.gamespy.com/reviews/february01/how/

Icewind Dale remains one of the coolest games around. I'm actually a big fan of the attack - pause - attack strategy, which makes Mass Effect sound all the cooler.

Setting auto-pauses to spell being cast, enemy seen, and enemy death rocked the goddamn casbah. I had a few others but those were the main ones. Made things way more streamlined than pure turnbased and way way more controllable than pure realtime.

I could never get into the IWD franchise. I tried the first but but, I dunno, it just seemed incredibly boring. I like RPG's with lots of towns and shit but that place was just a big old wasteland.

I really enjoyed the Baldurs Gate franchise though, once of the best damn RPG series' I've ever played.

IWD focused more on the fighting, less on the story. IWD2 was the pinnacle of a D&D combat system, IMO -- hard fights, but they were fun. Strategy was key.

BG was the opposite -- fights weren't the focus and, save for boss fights, were pretty easy.

Damn, I have the expansion too, but when I try to install it the setup crashes at 99% done every time....

Thanks for finding that for me though Fal, I appreciate it!

Edit: Actually Parce, your glowing recommendation of it in the past was a large factor of why I purchased it.

Yep, I totally agree. IWD was basically Diablo with the Baldur's Gate engine. Soooo boring.
