I've been psyched about this game along with a lot of other people, and now after getting it; I've got to put it aside to finish the guild's weekly SSC clear, followed by a few more Kael'thas attempts.

Has anyone else gotten it? Have they found it so good that they're not interested in EC/work/eating before finishing it? Is it rubbish and all the reviewers are lying?

If you haven't noticed, a lot of games zoom for widescreen. Primarily ones with a focus on high levels of detail.

The widescreen thing is a known issue. There's already a fan-created patch for the demo which fixes this and offers true 4:3, 16:10, 16:9, and 4:1 widescreen. There's talk of a fan-created patch for the retail version in progress.

Ken Levine made an official statement :

quote:
Hey guys-

Sorry about all the conflict. IG development people (specifically Chris and Rowan who are both on vacation) were trying to take a day off today (we've been working about six months 6-7 days a week). I'm trying to see what everybody's concerns are and consult with the staff.

I know people are frustrated, but we are dealing with internet time here. It wasn't until 7 pm EST that I was able to even talk to anybody in our Australian studio, which is open today (9 AM their time).

I hear you that not everybody was thrilled with the PC launch. And I'm trying to collect information and see what the facts are. PC game development does not function in a matter of seconds or hours, especially when most of the team is on vacation. But I hear you, and we're looking into the issue. I'll only ask you have a bit of understanding as to the time scale that software development issues must occur in.

Best regards,

Ken Levine

To be fair, you're right -- dying really doesn't mean anything, to the point I pretty much just zerg rush Big Daddies with the wrench when I need to harvest me some ADAM.

That can't be fun at all. Wrench does about .1 damage to them. So I'd imagine thats a lot of deaths.

Not that bad, lure them to a vita chamber, use freezing winter and smack them around a bit, alternate until out of EVE. Get killed, free EVE refill.

It's real stupid, but on the other hand it's simply impossible to kill these bitches on Hard without doing this. Trying to use Enrage or other plasmids to turn shit on them is failing miserably. Hopefully it'll work better with upgraded weapons, I'm only just in Arcadia.

I'm glad that I'm not playing on hard first time through. I'm having enough issues with running out of ammo and EVE on the level before Point Prometheus

edit: on normal, big daddies will die if they run through like 4 or 5 trap bolts. easy!

Hard would probably be much easier if headshots actually meant something. Oh look, I just emptied a clip of AP bullets in that Rosie's head! Hooray, 20% damage.

If I can't get them to a vita chamber, I just hit them with shotgun blasts square in that tank on their backs, it seems pretty efficient.

God, that was stupid.

I've been rescuing the little sisters thus far rather than harvesting them. The last Rosie I took down, the little sister ran off through a vent before I could rescue her and get my bonus. I thought it was because the fight went on too long, so I started saving all the electric bolt shells, explosive shells, grenade ammo, and AP ammo I could to prepare for the next big daddy I run across, only to have the game take away all my weapons and not return any of the ammo I was saving up.

I actually feel horrible each time I harvest a little sister. But I really have no choice, Hard is already enough of a pain as it is.

It's actually pretty variable, though. Some nitro or spider splicers die in like 3 shots, some are motherfuckin tanks. Doesn't make any sense.

I've found that the game seems to like to adapt to your preferred methods of slaughter. For instance, if I use Shock/Shotgun for a while, it'll throw Splicers that shrug off electricity and shotgun blasts, but will be more vulnerable to, say, the crossbow (or just armor-piercing rounds I guess) and fire.

Can be a pain in the ass, but it keeps things interesting.

The upgrade that lets you recover your bolts just makes it better.

Though I found that a combination the wrench-related tonics, stealth you get from researching the houdinis, and the silent footstep tonics make everything else trivial against everything but big daddies. And electric gel fixes them

Now that I bought the game I can finally read this thread.

If this game had a vagina, I'd fuck it.

If I weren't still playing it, I'd eject the dvd and fuck the hole, still warm from the 360's cherry-red glowing circuits.

I think that's all I have to say for now.

Now to take my time going through the game more meticulously instead of rushing to see the plot, and harvesting instead of rescuing so I can see the evil ending!

jeez

On Normal, just use 5 or 6 grenades followed by incendiary crossbow bolts or explosive shotgun blasts.

I found the splicers to be more annoying than the Big Daddies by the end of the game.

I avoided the threads untill I beat it, which was 20 seconds ago. I did indeed love the slight nod to system shock 2 in the theater where the vending machine cost a crazy ammount for a candy bar. Made me smile a bit. If you want to have some fun beat the final boss with only telekenisis. You can throw his projectiles back at him which makes his final form laughable if you get him in the water in back.
