A couple days ago I started having an issue with my monitor. Whenever I log into WoW, there's about a 50/50 chance that the screen will go black and stay that way (once you go black hur hur hur). Otherwise, it just flickers black for a split second and works fine afterward.
EDIT: o hay I forgot. Once the screen is black, nothing I do including quitting back to the desktop can get the display back. On one single occasion it came back when I alt-tabbed, but that's the exception rather than the rule.
It hasn't happened with any other program, and it never happens when I'm in the middle of playing; only just after I've selected a character and logged in.
I'm using a GeForce 7300 LE, which in my experience is good for pretty much everything except playing games, and I have the most up to date drivers as far as I can tell.
This has never happened before, even when running WoW on this very same system. The only things I've changed since the last time I played are some of the graphic settings.
Is my monitor fubar or is there something else going on? Sentow, I Guess fucked around with this message on 07-02-2007 at 11:48 AM.

I've had monitors flick to black for a split scond when logging into games like WoW and DAOC. Try turning your monitor off and then on when this happens and see if that fixes it?

EDIT: Looks like Bloodsage is right. I fiddled with the options and have since been able to log in three times in a row with only the quick black flicker.
Thanks go to Fal and Bloodsage =3 Sentow, I Guess fucked around with this message on 07-02-2007 at 12:13 PM.

I've updated the BIOS, the video drivers, DirectX, and hell, even wiped out a bunch of old media and defragged the hard drive.
The game will usually only work if it's one of the first things I do after booting up the computer.
This is ticking me off. I'd rather not have to restart my computer everytime I want to play this game and I'm afraid this is the first sign of a bigger problem.
The only other thing I can think of trying is throwing the monitor out a window a complete reinstall of the game, but I don't know if that would even help (and I don't want to do it because it takes me forever to download all the patches ). Are there any suggestions before I try it?

IIRC, every WoW patch you download gets stored in your WoW folder, possibly in case it needs to be re-applied or you need to re-install. If you're going to try re-installing, just copy those patches to another directory, and copy them back over and apply them in order when you're done re-installing.

Had to buy a new computer.

Ok, if this is a multi-person bit just to make a "hurr uninstall WoW that is the answer to all tech porblems" joke, then I'm going to be really irritated.
If it's the same shit that happened to my Dad's comp it had something to do with the CPU, and reinstalling WoW (and reformatting the harddrive) didn't do anything.
New comp fixed it though. D:
We have another computer that does the same thing (one of my older ones, the one my dad is currently using), but it's very rare that it happens. Only thing you can do once it does happen however is manually shut down and restart the computer.

Man, I've had this thing for like 8 months and I felt like I'd been taking pretty good care of it If it's screwed up already I'm going to send it back to Dell with a bomb inside. "Well THERE'S your probl-FWACKOOM!"
Anyway, I'll try these suggestions out. I really appreciate the advice, everyone
