I just wanna know what the best price range options I'd be looking at are as I never go electronics shopping outside of consoles and sometimes a computer part or two.

If it doesn't do 1080i I don't really call it an HDTV.
Most LCD's that support 768p will support 1080i. Khyron fucked around with this message on 06-21-2007 at 01:41 PM.

Mr. Gainsborough had this to say about John Romero:
I was more wondering between 250 and 400 if that's possible. I can tell on Best Buy that with 500 I can get something pretty good, but I was just wondering if there was a better place to buy stuff like this.
I got my Olevia 432V 32" LCD HDTV For $450 on special at Office Depot, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Built in HD Tuner, HDMI w/ HDCP, very nice picture. The only complaint I have is that when I adjust the volume, it stays on the screen for what seems like 10-15 seconds, so I just pick a volume and stay there.
Most of the lower-cost HDTV's I've seen are all Olevia, and I've been very happy with mine. I don't know where the best place to get one is, but I would recommend that brand. Khyron fucked around with this message on 06-21-2007 at 02:20 PM.

My 360 looks just fine on it. Big, and fine. So if you are really looking for a better price, a good old fashioned TV will give you more screen for your money. No HD though, I suppose.
I dont care much about HD though, so meh.
Sorry if that was useless info.
Unless you're one of the many who ostensibly are unable to tell the difference, of course.

Size is pretty pointless without resolution. It just makes things look shitty and big instead of just shitty.
^^^ truth both forwards and backwards
If you're not going beyond 40" 720 will look just as fine as 1080 - and save you a shitload of money.
Im thinking around $1,500

My parents recently purchased a Vizio 50 inch Plasma. I( was very impressed with it and they paid the same amount I did for mine.
I have seen 37 inch Vizios in the 500 Dollar range so this is something you may want to consider.
According to their website; current LCD and plasma TV's project ~40% of the colors the human eye can perceive, whereas their laser-based ones approach 90%.
They're also supposed to be like, 75% more energy efficient, and have much fewer maintenance problems due to a lack of moving parts found in current LCD and plasma sets. Also, due to less parts being used, they're supposed to be produced at half the cost of current sets.
Needless to say, I'm psyched about them coming out, and have already saved up about 3K to snag one, not sure what their actual price will be.

Hmm...I wonder who will see this discount. Hint: It probably won't be the consumer.

Yes, that's right, because businesses succeed by having products that are more expensive than the competition right?

Over the mountain, in between the ups and downs, I ran into Demos who doth quote:
I didn't say they would purposely make the tv more expensive, but if it genuinely costs half of what everybody else's product does, the company will most likely price it 10-15% cheaper and still succeed. Its just business sense.
But you just said the consumer wouldn't see any of the savings. Here, they are seeing the savings, just not as much as you'd like, as if the consumer deserves to see more for some reason and it's somehow unjust that they don't.
If they put all this R&D into laser technology and they're the only ones who are selling it right now, don't they kinda deserve to earn more profit? You get a cheaper, better HDTV, they get more money. It's called capitalism and it's a positive sum game, everybody wins, wealth is created from nothing.
If the business got nothing out of it, why would they bother innovating?

Verily, Demos doth proclaim:
I don't think its wrong. I just think its wrong to say "zomg 50% cheaper production" will translate to anything near 50% lower prices for the consumer. I should have phrased myself better.
He didn't say it'll cost half as much as the next companies LCD TVs.
