Anyone here still playing?
2 has (in my opinion) very fun helicopter combat, less fun jet combat, and decent Infantry combat, map-depending. SF is kind of necessary for stuff like the G36E.
I haven't played either in a while, but last time I looked, 2142 was more popular than 2.
I also play 2142 on occassion. Bought BF2 and the expansion a long while back and they've both sat unplayed. I just could never get into those ones.
I'm currently favouring BF 2142, but I have postponed the decision by buying Neverwinter Nights 2 yesterday.
Wait for Enemy Territory:Quake Wars.

Don't bother. Really. I'm serious.
It's fantastic until the last chapter, which feels like the dev who was in charge until then was fired and they replaced him with someone from SOE. It's rushed, horrible, and has an ending that will have you screaming with rage and punching the wall while shouting "YOU MADE ME PLAY THROUGH THE WHOLE GAME FOR -THAT-???".
Just saying. :3

SOE is a bit less lame nowadays. After years of their players telling them to slow down with the expansions, they tried it and put out Echoes of Faydwer for EQ2.
Now they've slowed down expansion releases to once a year for both EQ1 and EQ2 from the tremendous positive responses they received from EoF.
That being said, I can't disagree. Game is okay up until the end, then shit goes downhill very fast like with Kotor2 and Lionheart, which just happen to be the most recent games created by Black Isle/Obsidian. Seems that it's a trend with those guys, make half a good game and then end it with shit.
Oh, and you've read that NWN2 has an expansion being worked on, right?

Not getting it. Don't care. They lost my money with that crap ending. I took NWN back to the store.

I don't even play EQ2 but I feel compelled to say that you're kind of a bitter jerk for assuming that they're completely incapable of learning from their own mistakes and the successes of others in refining EQ2 over the past few years
SWG is still pretty much inexusable though

Despite obtrusive, obnoxious in-game advertisements in Planetside - and reducing the development team to a pair of skeletons in a dusty closet - SOE recently raised the subscription price from $12.99 to $14.99
This is really all because SOE still can't figure out how to charge people to actually play their game. My account is somehow still on an active subscription over two years after I formally canceled it.
So for those five or ten people who actually get charged to play their game, they are now being charged more, while being bombarded with audio and video advertisements every time they log in.
Well I guess they own Vanguard now, too, but I don't know how much they care about that

I went and played Vanguard, and before that I tooled around in EQ1 and, yes, SWG for kicks.
I'm not assuming, I know.

SWG was a horrible abortion and even the most staunch of SOE supporters (all 10 of them) should be able to admit that. Vanguard wasn't really developed by SOE until a few weeks ago when their failure caused them to be absorbed, so I don't know how much that should really reflect on them. I recall reading an interview wherein a SOE rep said that they weren't really ready to launch Vanguard but as a co-publisher they didn't even have enough say to delay the launch, so I wouldn't place the blame on SOE there
EQ2 has been their flagship product for a while now and many of those who hated it at launch are enjoying it now. I tried it again about a year ago and found that I don't have the patience to start over from nothing in any MMO, so I went back to my then 60 in WoW. I honestly can't say anything about its quality either way other than hearsay, but the hearsay is pretty alright lately!

EQ2 is going to be the exception to the rule. I dropped the game back in closed beta because I thought it was horrible then. I picked it up recently (yes, I'm in the SA guild) and the game has really turned around. Since the EoF expansion pack the devs have turned it into a solid game. Amazing really.
Of course, EQ2 isn't on the station pass. That's where games go to die.

Vanguard's fuck-ups are caused by Sigil, not SOE.
Which is kind of funny really, as Sigil no longer exists.

While I don't feel that SWG was very good to begin with (it should have been a lot better since it was a Star Wars game, but hey, there are many other shitty Star Wars games out there), and that is SOE's fault, I still think the NGE shit was caused by Lucas Arts more than SOE.

This pretty much. EQ1 is fucked up too because quite frankly, WoW owns in it the face, and SOE is just milking it for money. Hell, the next expansion has you fighting Kerafyrm. Apparently it's a good idea to kill off key plot-related characters in your games now. Willias fucked around with this message on 05-27-2007 at 12:17 PM.
