Russia has plans to link the Bering Strait with rail/power/highway tunnel.

This is awesome. If this was completed, you could take a train from Boston to London. It'd take the better part of a month, but you could do it.

This could be awesome if they can get it done Maybe install some nice superthick glass so you could see giant squids during your train ride.

A spectacular feat of engineering, sure--but come on, we've got over ninety years yet! How dissapointing would it be if that was the greatest engineering project of the century?

That is the sound of every civil engineer spooging in their pants for a chance to tackle this bad boy.

I can't find the link at the moment, but there's that huge dam going up in China that's pretty impressive in its size. Supposedly it will be viewable from space along with the great wall.

edit: Oh, and I need to interject the following: Don't let anyone who worked on the Big Dig anywhere near this one.

That is the Three Gorges Dam, and yes it is on big mf-ing dam. The Wikipedia entry on it

I will say, a tunnel make alot more sense than a bridge that they have been toying around with for years. I think it would greatly alter commerce, the amount of freight that could go by train instead of slow sealift or costly air-lift.
