hay is dis sum Second Life

[modest]Everything designed and made and textured and placed by me.[/modest]

Areas not shown:

  • Off-world Korriban Tomb.
  • Super Star Destroyer "Tyrant" bridge and cell bay.
  • Durasteel Slave Mines.

Pretty much a small contained game world. Others have made mini versions of Tatooine, Nar Shaddaa, Naboo, even a tower on Coruscant. It's a pretty lively community. Wanted to show that Second Life isn't all morons and cybersex (just mostly ¬_¬ ).

I'm so fucking addicted to making stuff.

    Thats really amazing. Go Mort!

So is it basically a museum? Or do you have fighting script or something attached so when you get all those Star Wars rpers together you can battle it out?

What am I supposed to in here again? Oh yes something witty and oh so pretty!

I can throw primitive shapes together and texture them up with the best of them, but I'm a truly horrible scripter and have never really got the hang of how the Second Life custom script language (called LSL) works. So a lot of the things are just "ooooh, aaaaah, pretty" objects that do absolutely nothing.

But I can put together simple scripts like texture rotators, object rotators, sound players, sound loopers, basic particle generators and doors. So there are a lot of nifty things that add atmosphere to the place like doors that hiss and clank when they open and comm systems mumbling away and R2 units whistling and beeping as they trundle around. I'm particularly pleased with that big red crystal, it slowly rotates on its axis and I used transparency scripts to turn the lightning arcs from 100% to 0% alpha in random timings, the whole effect is really nice alongside the looped sound effect, it's kind of like Freedon Nadd's tomb on Dxun from KOTOR2.

I do have people that help me with scripts, but there is a lot I would like to accomplish before I declare the place wholly finished. Like a planetary shield (that huge dish behind the statue) that you can actually destroy, with bits delinking and turning physical so they can drop to the ground before derezzing, with the whole structure re-rezzing about 30 minutes later. Doable but very complicated.

Ideas for this place are constantly streaming about in my head, I just don't have to time to do it all. I love designing this place, it's definately my primary hobby now.

Yes, two chicks do indeed dig Star Wars. Then again, I'm sure you could pay a couple of models to show up at a Star Trek convention dressed up like Orion Slave Girls, too.

Those are just two of the MANY female members of the worldwide 501st Stormtrooper Legion.

They are not models. They really do roleplay being female Stormtroopers.
