Why are these people always so goddamned emaciated and ugly? Oh, that's right, because they eat garbage, have to walk everywhere, and don't bathe. Maybe I'll go Freegan for a couple months; I'd get in shape, and I'd get to root around in filth.

This shit ain't new guys, this whole website reads like a page out of Atlas Shrugged. The language used is almost verbatim.
quote:
Freeganism is a total boycott of an economic system where the profit motive has eclipsed ethical considerations and where massively complex systems of productions ensure that all the products we buy will have detrimental impacts most of which we may never even consider.
I literally LOL'd.
quote:
To politically challenge the injustice of allowing vital resources to be wasted while multitudes lack basic necessities like food, clothing, and shelter, and to reduce the waste going to landfills and incinerators which are disproportionately situated within poor, non-white neighborhoods, where they cause elevated levels of cancer and asthma.
So in other words, these people are kinda like the Food Bank except self-serving and activist and not really helpful in any way.
quote:
Squatters believe that real human needs are more important than abstract notions of private property, and that those who hold deed to buildings but wont allow people to live in them, even in places where housing is vitally needed, dont deserve to own those buildings.
I literally LOL'd again. Housing is a RIGHT not a privilige and that abstract notion is more important than the abstract notion of private property because... because Marx and System of a Down said so. Maradon! fucked around with this message on 01-03-2007 at 06:18 PM.
In fact, wealth is infinite, it is generated any time humans act on a resource; wealth is distributed by merit of benefit to society and not by some asinine, contrived idea of entitlement; waste is neither avoidable nor wrong and minimizes itself to a great extent; profit is nothing more than proof of benefit to society, maximizing profit is nothing more than benefitting society to the most efficient extent possible.
Ironically, the same process of profit maximization that they demonize serves to eliminate waste as much as possible.
And that about wraps that up, as handily as it did fifty years ago.

Maradon! had this to say about Pirotess:

When are you going to run for president?

Razor had this to say about Matthew Broderick:
When are you going to run for president?
When poor people lose the right to vote.
quote:
The logic train ran off the tracks when Manticore said:
When poor people lose the right to vote.
Maradon's ideas are fairly libertarian, really, which is pretty anti-poor. On the other hand, it's the best kind of government for dealing with economics, religion and social policies. I'm against social engineering of any kind.
quote:
When the babel fish was in place, it was apparent Razor said:
When are you going to run for president?
why do you encourage him
Maybe not president, but more of an "executive officer for the week" kinda thing.
Also as for crazy people I was in the grocery store today and an older frail man with a hippy look to him kept saying "GOTTA STOCK UP THERES A BUNCH A RAIN COMMIN'" over and over again.
quote:
Peanut butter ass Shaq Manticore booooze lime pole over bench lick:
When poor people lose the right to vote.
Fortunately, truly poor people are a vast minority. More than half of all americans are stockholders and less than 16% are in poverty.
Everyone else would see direct benefit from a noninvasive government in the form of a pay increase of about 20%, usually more.
The poverty stricken would have to settle for the indirect benefits that come with an economy unfettered by the millstone of expensive, immoral, and utterly ineffective socialist entitlement programs and other asinine domestic spending habits. These benefits include (but are not limited to) a drastic (40% or more) reduction in the retail price of... everything from bread to iPods, soaring job growth as our manufacturing sector becomes competitive in the world market again, all in all a dramatically reduced cost and increased standard of living.
There will, of course, always BE poor people when wealth is distributed by merit, because there will always be dysfunctional people, but even these poor slobs will also see some great benefit in the form of increased charitible donations from people having 20% more expendable wealth than they once had.
To answer the question as to when there will be a libertarian president: It'll happen once people actually take an interest in politics and the economics of the world around us. A REAL interest, coupled with real knowledge; not the bumper-sticker slogan spitting interest most people have today. Maradon! fucked around with this message on 01-03-2007 at 10:08 PM.
Nah, it's way more 'Steal This Book'.

--Satan, quoted by John Milton
quote:
Over the mountain, in between the ups and downs, I ran into Karnaj who doth quote:
Although, having Freegans around on the fringe of society does reduce waste, and they seem to be otherwise happy, so it's not all bad, I guess. I mean, as long as they're serving some sort of function like that, they are benfitting society in a way. Maybe not the best way, but eh. Who is?
Well, they're consuming waste that would have otherwise probably not been consumed, but they aren't contributing anything in any other way, so it really makes no contribution to society at all, they're simply less of a burden than most homeless.
The food bank and similar organizations, on the other hand, take that waste and redistribute it to people who are legitimately in crisis (and are not just a rich college kid trying to make a political statement). They do the same "making a living off waste" thing, they just do it on a far grander scale and bring serious benefit to countless people who might otherwise live as human vermin out of necessity rather than choice.
Also, I just noticed this:
quote:
...in opposition to a society based on materialism......Squatters believe that real human needs are more important than abstract notions...
ROFL, who are the materialists here? Maradon! fucked around with this message on 01-04-2007 at 06:42 AM.
then...
OK YOU CAN HITCHIKE BUT ONLY BECAUSE YOU DON'T ADD TO THE POLLUTION, EVEN THOUGH YOUR ADDED WEIGHT WILL CAUSE GREATER FUEL CONSUMPTION. WAIT FUCK
