Even in a suburb of Seattle.

At least the community came together in this crisis to make the cripple feel like an outsider for daring to have a 20 year old cannon built by fucking high school students blow up. Fucking morons.

Yes, obviously a cannon built by high school rednecks is perfectly safe.

I hope they lose the cannon, because if they are not willing to buy a real one, they do not deserve it.

I read this story the other day, and yeah, it made me literally sick to my stomach how these people valued their idiotic little football game ornament over this kid's life, to the point of threatening him.

It speaks of a community so absorbed in their asinine Olde Timey traditions that they've lost all perspective of reality. Tribalism at it's worst. Loathing is not a strong enough word for my perception of them.

I caught this one on fark yesterday; farkers pretty much overran the town's website, forcing them to remove contact pages, and they also got ahold of the email addresses for high school staff. Finally, there was a poll on the town's football site asking how many games people planned on attending, with about 190 votes for various choices except for "none", which had over 27000 votes.

The mayor and Superintendent speak.

Note that they don't apologize for continuing the football game after the kid's leg got mashed, nor do they say that they'll be discontinuing the tradition. In fact, there's no real refutation of the worst things of the original article. They're just trying--rather desperately--to save face.

Also, the comments on that page are fucking hilarious. I love anonymous flamewars.

In all fairness, there'd be no more reason to cancel the game than if one of the athletes had been injured playing it. Can't say I agree with some of what went on, but continuing the football game wasn't improper in the least.
