The only remote possibility I can think of is learning how to fly (getting a pilots license)... but seeing how woozy I get on a rollerocaster, I'm not sure if that's such a wise idea.
Before someone suggests joining a DND group or an MMORPG... I may have the urge to do that later, but right now I'm simply in the mood for things a bit less sedentary. diadem fucked around with this message on 11-08-2006 at 07:24 AM.
Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite. - John Kenneth Galbraith

Not anymore. There's nothing to do in that state save bowling, drinking, movies, pool, and more drinking. Oh, and starting a yearly convention for the other bored people.
I live in Mass now - right next to Cambridge. There's pretty much more to do than I can think of. Or more importnatly, if I can think of it, I can do it.
The other advantage is the access to public transit which takes me straight to the airport. Thanks to Jet Blue and other airlines with shuttle flights, it's very easy and cheap for me to go to other major cities as well.
Taking one lesson of flight is a good idea. It couldn't hurt. Well... you know what I mean :-P
Working out's a good idea. I really need to get myself a trainer. Going by myself seems to have peaked. I'm seriously considering Aikedo (I've got a small frame, so it sounds like the best bet.) I threw a post up on something awful and they said to look for a studio that isn't driven towards getting a belt.
As for skiiing or snowboarding, they just seem too boring to me... and the idea of falling over and over again sucks .
Building an igloo is silly, but I am looking into habitat for humanity, so i guess that's similar.
Paintball works too. Paintball always works. My '98 is in ill reapair, though. I gotta get myself a firearms liscence to go to a range at some point too.
Frank, next time I'm in philly I'll give you a call. edit: [old man]No drinking, though... for two years at least[/old man]
The pub quiz is a great idea. Thanks

Try it anyway. Then try to come back and tell us it sucks.
First, you have to find a real mountain. None of those east coast hills, dude.
Second, get lessons. Spring for one day in a group and a few days of private lessons, and you'll be surprised how much fun it is; let someone you know try to teach you, and you'll hate life.
Third, have a hot toddy.
On the other hand, skiing can be expensive.
Your idea of picking up a martial art is cool, too. Look for a place not geared toward belts, as your friend suggested--they're actually pretty meaningless. Figure out what you want out of the experience, and find a club that emphasizes it. Some focus on fitness, others on flexibility, some rare few on actual combat, and some on competition.

Hahah, I told you the ER thing, right? That didn't stop me at all!
Go to the Kendall Theatre for awesome indeed flicks?
Visit an Art Gallery, or the MFA, or other museums and what not.
And on the note of skiing, the MBTA is going to have a train that goes close to Wachusett Mountain, starting the end of this month, drops you off at the train station then you get a shuttle to the mountain. But as you said you have no interest in it.
You could go and see a play or opera or something, plenty of shows playing right now.
Or go to Harvard square and just walk around, plenty of fun little shops, and interesting people. Also if your into The Rocky Horror Picture Show, there is a midnight show/performance of it in Harvard Square, it's really quite interesting.
Or you could do the freedom trail before it gets too chilly. The old graveyards are pretty nifty.
Or go to the Atheneum, the countries oldest private Library. (Part of it is open to the public) Or go to State House.
Hope this is helpful.
