I run a bipedal Hound with dual Sabres and 3 MGs. I can take out anything but those damned pilers, because they're too damned fast and when they get close it's one hit and your dead--or they go straight to the base and two hits and its dead.

Pilers are all about speed and nothing else, they're glass cannons. Plop two backward-facing minelayers on the back of your 1v1 mech and run away, dropping mines whenever they get close.
Tears em to pieces.

That's what I've been thinking, too, but it'll mean leaving my favored inverse-leg chassis in favor of--probably--a tracked one. Either that, or reducing the NA generator to the bare minimum.
Speaking of which, I recently found a setup using the ungodly huge Morskojvian NA generator with like a 997 range. As a sniper, being able to see the bad guy approach way out always lets me find the right high ground. Sniped one poor dude before he even saw me, as he was standing on a hill guarding his base. He made a fight of it (had armor in front of the cockpit), but that first shot made all the difference.
I still hate cities, though.
Anyone have a good setup for city fighting?

AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT EVERY OTHER MOTHERFUCKER ON LIVE IS USING
So I plop 4 heatsinks on my bipedal scout and load it up with shotguns. Get right up close to those sonsabitches and just wail on their faces.

Hehe, just got into a long-range duel with a heavy gunner mounting 5 huge cannon. Not sure why he thought he could take out a sniper, but to his credit, he tried to hide behind the hill crest, and he even got me once with splash damage. Had a monster of a cockpit, too: took 3 or 4 direct hits to take him out. But since my bullets took like a second to get to him, and his shells took five or six to get to me, there was never a doubt.
And as a backup I could always walk off since I had 5 COMBAS and he only had 1. Bloodsage fucked around with this message on 08-10-2006 at 02:11 PM.

I use a tank tread body with a group of 3 cannons that fire at once with max heat rounds. If I do just anti hound I run with 2 groups of 3 rather than a group of 3 cannons and 3 rifles for missions. With these I take out almost any hound pretty easy at medium and or close range.

He's playing it only in the 1st person view.

And I'm kicking myself because I kept forgetting to turn up the resolution on the TV when you were here. It looks so much better at 720p.
BTW, should I post our family portrait?

I am not a fan of the Sabre. It is heavy, weak, and has zero ammo.
Really? I rarely run out of ammo with it, and it pwns in terms of 1410 CE damage. With a long-range NA generator that lets me see the bad guys before they know I'm setting up, I usually kill them before their weapons are in range.
Though I got sniped myself just now by a smart dude in the sandstorm map, who had sniper rifles, a couple of MGs, and heat sinks galore so even though I had him on radar I couldn't shoot him, though he could see me in IR.

I play mostly 3v3 and 4v4, so sniper rifles with eight rounds a piece are about damned useless. I stick with my Marskovian SC100 if I need to snipe.
Yeah, I can see your point, there. I play exclusively 1v1, so the only time ammo is a factor is close range with the MGs.

Oh, that might explain why I wasn't really impressed by the graphics.
I was thinking about making a Paris thread this weekend or at the start of the next week, if that's okay with you.

Do grid squares have a consistant length? It would make heavy gunnering(single player at leat) much easier if I could guestimate distance off that.
On the mission briefing there is a field that tells you the size of the map.
Maps are always cut into 10x10 grid squares, so on a 3k by 3k map, the grids are 300 meters each.
