I have recently come into an extra shift that requires me to drive for about 4 hours straight. I need driving music. The one song I really liked when it played on my iPod is Hiromitsu Agatsuma - Kaze (thanks Addy for posting it in the previous mp3 thread). I'm basically looking for decent songs that go ontop of my regular playlist, so what songs do you like to listen to while driving through bumfuck nowhere?

Some other songs I didn't mind.
Wild Arms 3 - Country Theme
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979
KoS - Crabbuckit
HackSign - Key of the Twilight

How can you NOT have "Born to be Wild" in there? That's the ultimate driving song!

Not really "songs", but Philip Glass is perfect for driving...the calmer piano stuff, that is. It'll make you feel like you're in a meditative film about the gradual passing of time, and the aging of man. Either that, or it'll just hypnotize you...so maybe not such a good idea, actually.

But then again, you listed "1979" (THE song for driving, as used so well in Clerks II), and some Glass stuff evokes the same sort of general mood as that song.

I always found that (at least for me) driving music was best when you could either sing along to it (Re: Weird Al) or if it had an interesting beat that took effort to pay attention to.

That Kaze song is really awesome.

I've been using a lot of RPG video game music while driving. The volume is fairly steady, most of the songs have a decent pace, and it's distracting enough for tedious trips without being too distracting for situations requiring more caution. Also in my collection are Pure Moods (I-IV), Evanescence (sp?), a couple Enygma CDs, and a few odds and ends for when I'm experiencing a particular temperament.

I want to be a race car passenger; just a guy who bugs the driver. "Say man, can I turn on the radio? You should slow down. Why do we gotta keep going in circles? Can I put my feet out the window? Man, you really like Tide..." - Mitch Hedberg

Do you often fall asleep while driving or find yourself going 35mph in a 65 zone?

I find if I don't have a distraction while driving, my brain creates a more immersive one, or I end up slowly accelerating. No, I have never slowed down over long distances. If I'm feeling tired or bored, I skip the sombre tracks on the RPG music. I have had occasions where I was tired enough to start nodding off, at which point I turn on cruise control, shut off the radio, take deep breaths, and focus on driving stubborn. (Not aggressive. Not road rage. I just tinker my emotional state a bit.)
