I find it too hilariously surreal to be outraged.

On the one hand, I'm tempted to go WTF. Isn't this sort of government help par for the course for citizens? I mean, isn't it obligated to protect its citizens in deteriorating conditions such as this and not have them foot the bill for things out of their control?

Then again, you could easily view this as a tax on people for being so fucking dumb that they went to the Middle East in the first place.

If it's a choice between them footing the bill or all of us, it seems pretty obvious to me.

You don't find it odd that we pay way more money to keep non-American citizens in other countries safe, yet when it comes to protecting our own, we make them pay up?

Apparently, according to CNN's BREAKING NEWS, this has been waived.

I'd much rather my tax money went to helping American citizens who got stuck in the middle of a warzone get home safetly than buying some piece of shit drug dealer his fourth car because he's cheating the welfare system.

I was under the impression that, at the time, getting them out of the warzone to Cyprus was free, but then they'd have to make their own arrangements on getting from there to the US. Which doesn't seem all that unreasonable to me. Especially if it's like...that or a flight in a transport plane home or something.

Hey, yeah!

It is indeed obvious that it should come from the American public purse, rather than a few suffering Americans stranded in a wartorn country.

Military even makes the people enlisted in it pay for an outrageous amount of junk.

This ticks me off too, but I am not really surprised

Its a matter of policy. These people were going to leave Lebanon on their own in any case, had the bombing not happened.

Also, I have a dim view of people so stupid as to go to the middle east in the middle of such unrest without a compelling reason. And the only compelling reasons I can think of involve military personnel or civillian contractors.

My squadron may be doing rescue ops to Beirut. And I will be unbelievably pissed if my fellow personnel are treated the same way as they were when we flew to New Orleans to assist with the hurricane evacs.

It's summer time and Lebanese Americans probably have family in Lebanon.

I hold family in high regard. However, I wouldnt enter an area that had been flagged as a hazard zone for warlike activities (the middle east in general) for a visit. I sure as hell wouldnt brings my kids and/or spouse.

When you get to boot camp, you get to pay for every single item you are going to wear or use for the next ~2 months. Uniforms, undergarments, soap, and such. Then you get to have food that is worse than the average of what you ate as a civilian, only to later learn its some of the best food in the military.
