With photographs.

Good deal, but unlike a conventional enemy, taking out the head just means a new piece of shit will take his place. It's a good boost for morale, though.

But the next one will probably not be as adept as Zarqawi and will be easier to kill and less effective.

Terrorism and insurgents don't act with much organization to begin with. Taking out one of their heads brings down the infrastructure pretty hard, too.

Guess they were fresh out of #2 men. Terrorist group leaders, let this be a lesson to you. Always keep a supply of #2 men handy.

I would have taken their word for it, btw. Getting sick of seeing dead Iraqi mastermind sorts. Last time I saw someone, it was the pic of dead Uday and Qusay Hussein and I was eating noodles at the time. Now I avoid pictures when someone dies because you just know they're going to show 'em.

So....

Who gets the $25 million bounty?

Didn't we stiff the guy who gave up Saddam on the bounty?

Eh...They say Zarqawi was, while essentially the one who kicked off the big insurgency in Iraq, only actually personally responsible (IE his personal faction in play over there) for like 5% of the ongoing insurgency. He was actually struggling for legitimacy, according to some sources, because he (like Bin Laden in most places) was viewed as an outsider. IE not an Iraqi, in this case. So he was surrounding himself with Iraqi personnel in an attempt to fit in.

Plus, unlike Bin Laden, he had a hard time keeping his targets focused, plus he was alienating his own side. It's sort of like when Capone went down (except, of course, that Bin Laden is not actually dead); everyone attempted to pick up the pieces. A thug took over and couldn't handle it. Bin Laden wants to be a major player and he wants the Western Infidel out. He played the idea of "West vs Moslems" whereas Zarqawi would just as happily target opposing factions of moslems.

In fact, what with comments that it was someone on the inside who was feeding information leading to the strike, it seems fairly obvious that's why we actually got Zarqawi: Housecleaning.

Nice name recognition, but it's hardly what I'd consider a major event.

The way that I've heard it explained, Deth, the reason that the pictures of the dead are shown in these situations is because otherwise the people in the Middle East won't believe the reports of the death. As for why they're shown here, well, blame the media for that one. How often is the media allowed to show dead guys without it being morally reprehensible, obscene, and offensive?
