I know a fair amount of you will laugh and scoff. I wish you wouldn't of course. To everyone that even bothers to read this, thank you. To anyone who can actually help and does, I am very grateful and no words could express my thanks.

Anyway, I have posted many pictures of my border collie Dante, he has helped me through many hard times in the time I have had him. And now, he needs my help and I am unable to help him by myself.

He has torn his ACL and needs surgery to fix it. The surgery is 1100$ when all is said and done. I have managed to save 150$ towards upgrading my computer which now goes to help Dante. I was going to just try and save the money and do so with a much more concentrated effort, but even that is not fast enough it seems. Because Dante has had to hop around on only three legs his other back knee/ACL joint is quickly weaking and he needs the surgery ASAP before his other leg goes out as well.

So, I am asking you all for any help you could give. Even 10$ is that much closer I will be to his surgery.

Since I can not for the life of me figure out to post that little donation link paypay gives you in huge long lines of HTML, I am linking my LJ post that has the link in it. Pay Pal Link In This Post On LJ

Have you looked into one of those pet credit deals? One of Lyinar and my cats had to have some work done a while back, and we didn't have the cash on hand. The vet set us up with a pet credit account. It's essentially a line of credit specifically for paying pet costs; you pay some miniscule amount every month (like 25 bucks) and pay off the debt. The interest on it wasn't that bad either. My credit wasn't amazing at the time but I was able to get one anyway.

Spending $1100 on a dog is dumb. Once shit starts failing they don't have long to go, anyway.

What? I remember my grandparents wasting like a grand of your funny money, roughly converted, on their dog because it had bad hind legs or something. A year later it went blind and had trouble breathing and shit and they had to put it down anyway. Just get a new dog.

Thank you very much Bajah.

And just so you all who think I should just put Dante down. He is not that old, and healthy in every other way. He got the injury from a fall, not from illness or disease or age.

Yeah it sounded like the pooch is otherwise in pretty good shape. These things happen to animals, and the notion of "whoop, busted knee, best put 'im down" is long past. The question really is a matter of quality of life and knowing your own financial limits.

Our cat, for instance, is in the middle of her expected lifespan. We could have six or seven more really good years with her (and that's not assuming she'll have the freakish good health her mother has at 12 years old). Dropping some cash to get her liver problem sorted out was an unexpected and unwelcome expense (who welcomes dropping money on something like this) but I wouldn't say it was an unworthy expenditure.

I wish I could contribute, Trent, because I do really sympathize, but I can't afford much right now, with closing on our house and so forth coming up. Sorry

Donated. I wish for the best, I know myself had a steep bills for my dog. The truth is, I regret to say I am almost inclined to agree with Jens. Not in such a rude way, but, in truth our family likely spent upwards of 2,000 dollars. Which only brought an extra week or two to the dog's life. While I don't know the circumstances of the surgery and the risks involved, sometimes the better road to take it is the the road to end suffering. If I could, I would of declined the surgery to my own dog to end the suffering then. I don't think the last days or her life were enjoyable being operated on till death. But again, you can possibly have a different outcome and only a minor risk in the surgery. Just my concern for you, but I do hope everything turns out well.

If he were a cat, he'd be putting his shaved limb on you constantly for sympathy.

Are they at all worried he'll gnaw on the stitches?
