Dell. Seriously, they make really good laptops. They just load them with lots of annoying software.
I get a discount on Dell through work, but when I was on their site, I didn't see anything that I was absolutely in love with. I'll keep lookin', though.

Wholly shit. I found a coupon code on there to knock $750 off the price. Dell it is.

Any last minute changes before I buy this thing tomorrow morning?
And the 1400 is a little weak but a better choice over integrated graphics(weaksauce, they don't have the 6800Go as an option anymore, well, it should be a 7800 by now, but still).
ALSO: Get the bigger fucking battery. Bigger battery == LUV.

17in notebooks are HUGE LOL OMG. Seriously, I have one, I hate myself for getting the 17in 9300. I'd get a 15.4 inch instead(unless it's NEVER going to be used off of a desk). And honestly if I could do it over I'd have gotten their 12inch one.And the 1400 is a little weak but a better choice over integrated graphics(weaksauce, they don't have the 6800Go as an option anymore, well, it should be a 7800 by now, but still).

Alright. I'll look into the battery thing, but I'm kind of maxed out as it is. I'm fucking pleased to be coming in $40.00 under budget.

I love my 17 inch laptop and don't think I could go back to a smaller screen. However I do think you should upgrade to a 100 or 120 gig Hard-drive.
Holy shit. You made a post in a computer thread and didn't mention apple!
Seriously -- I love my 17 inch laptop too. It isn't that much heavier than something smaller and, unless you're a girly-man, 1 pound shouldn't make a difference.

That's all? I have a 40gb HD for my porn. It's full.

Also: Is that video chip better than the Ti4200 I have in my desktop right now?
Quite handily.
I'm rather happy with my 17inch 9300, however I really wish I had gotten a 15.4 or smaller because they are MUCH easier to use to take notes during a lecture or sommate. The seats in the lecture halls I go to don't have tables big enough to hold a 17'' notebook.
Also their Latitude (business) line is pretty hot, but I don't think the video card options are as good.

The Hitchhikers Guide has this to say on Norim Stumpfighter:
I have a dell laptop and if I had it to do over again, I'd make sure to upgrade to the microsoft office. word is vastly superior to works. besides, if you want to make resumes and send them off, most employers only use word as well.
You can download open office, which is 80% as good as microsoft office for 0% of the cost.

Is XP Media Center Edition a fancy name for Home now?
I don't think so. I think Media Center is specifically designed to power kiosks and such. . .and serve as a sort of nerdy home entertainment doohickey if you're inclined that way.

Not really on the kiosks.

XP Media Center is pro with a few minor bells and whistles.
It lacks ONE stupid little item of functionality that pro had - I think it was NTFS encryption of individual files but I'm not sure - but other than that it's identical to XP Pro for all intents and purposes.

It's Home with bells and whistles, not Pro.
Fastest thing we have at the shoddy computer store known as Office depot in the laptop section and it only has a 13" screen and 100gb hdd. I'm still pondering how they got a 100gb in the thing as it weighs a whopping 4.3 lbs with battery.
Go Go Sony for being overpriced though.

No, it has remote desktop and almost literally every other pro-specific feature.
