It's gotten better. Money is incredibly easy to make, if you know where to go:
Easiest 20 Mil ever, probably more on other servers. That Battle is a joke, and it's level 40 cap, so you don't need to be really high to do it.
Theres a lot more solo options for EXP, granted it's not much, but most of them you can do while seeking for a party. The next expansion is going to contain a lot of solo content as well, and it's due out next month. Skaw fucked around with this message on 02-21-2006 at 04:54 PM.
That's a big part of what killed the game for me. "At level 20 you will be using a claymore"

ACES! Another post by Skaw:

Yeah, but what does 20 million buy you now? That's worth what 200g was at release right?
FFXI had some great ideas and executed most of them very well IMHO. The main problem with the game was, and still is, the grind for exp and money. If it wasn't for the grind and NPC spawn rates I'd say it has the best PvE in any MMO.

A lot, actually, on my server anyway. 20 Mil would get a Lv60 Chain user a Full Haubergeon and Thick+1 set. Might have some change left over.
Also, we're talking 20 Mil as early as level 40. A level 40 couldn't possibly spend 20 Mil. Skaw fucked around with this message on 02-21-2006 at 06:47 PM.

Are they making any effort to make more job/subjob combinations viable or are there still only a few worth a damn?
Really, that depends solely on the job. For some, yeah, a lot of people removed the stick up their asses and realized things can work.

The subjob system was the game's biggest dissapointment for me. I wanted every subjob to have a viable benefit for any primary job.

Any examples you can think of?

/DRG on most melee jobs. /RDM for WHM and BLM. /DRK on PLD as a DD in a party.

Whoa /drg? I can understand RDM though.
Yeah, I'm wondering about /drg myself. That seemed like one of the more useless classes to have as a sub to me.

Huh? Attack and Accuracy bonuses, latent subjob-based Haste+5% Earring, Jump(I can do nearly 400,) High Jump.

There was much rejoicing when Mod said this:
Don't forget the hillariously terrible player models.
I dunno, I always thought they were pretty damn good by MMOG standards.

They're really nicely modeled, but it's clone city everywhere you go. Not enough customization.

I remember doing MNK/DRG just for messing around and the sheer amusement of pouncing on things and making them explode Cobalt Katze fucked around with this message on 02-22-2006 at 02:13 AM.

Eh, that's mostly a fault of the lack of armor variety. I seldom notice character model differences unless it's very obvious stuff like body shape and skin color.
