Doesn't everyone pretend they were a coked up alcoholic? No?

A lot of people at my work have been reading the book "A Million Little Pieces" and it sounded really grotesque at times. But, as we now know, a little too grotesque to be true.

I really wanted to read that book, until this came out. I kinda had it in the back of my mind that this book was a lie though when I read the summary on the back...

"Imagine waking up on a plane. You have no idea where you've beeen or where you're going, you have no memory of the preceding two weeks. Imagine that your front four teeth have been knocked out, your nose broken in, and a gash on your cheek. Imagine that you have no money, no wallet, no job. Imagine the police in three states looking for you. Imagine that you have been an alcoholic for ten years and a crack addict for three. What would you do? What would you do?"

The first thing I thought was, "What airline in their right mind is gonna let a blood spattered guy with no identification on board a plane?"

Kind of shallow that the message doesn't mean as much as she claims when it's not completely true.

ITS A BOOK.

When you market something as factual, and it is not actually factual, what does that get you?

I'll wait while you do the math there.

More sales after Oprah throws a nationwide hissyfit?

Sure, people are mad because it's bullshit. Yeah, some people will demand a refund. But theres tons of others who are buying the book now, just to see what all the fuss is about. Sure he made a fuckton of money when it made Oprah's book list.. but its making even more now, since Oprah has had him on her show, he's been publicized on EVERY news network in the english speaking world, JUST BECAUSE OF OPRAH.

He may be full of shit, but it's not like it matters.

Well, if hes making money and it doesn't matter, then Im sure nobody will mind if I write my memoir on how badly I was treated in Auschwitz. Hey, I'll even spruce up some of the characters to make it more entertaining and edgy.

What the hell difference would that make?

It's a fucking book.

What is so difficult to understand about this?

If you did not personally buy his book, read it, and have it change your fucking life.. you really have no cause to be angry, annoyed, or anything else about it.

And if you did buy it, and are angry, annoyed, or whatever.. GET OVER IT. It's a fucking book.

All this will do is sell more books.

I had never heard of it before; now I want to read it.

Why would he need to write again? He's already made millions.

bingo.

If I was a writer, I'd go down on Hitlers corpse to get my book mentioned on Oprah, even in a bad way.

Money isn't everything, alot of writers would rather not have a best-seller if it meant they couldn't write again.

Not every writer is going to be Grisham, or King, or Steel.. Most writers will never see anything close to the best sellers list. If they enjoy thier work, they will continue to write, regardless of where they are on the best sellers list. Others will retire if they ever get there to begin with.

This guy doesn't strike me as the keep on writing type though. He is not your stereotypical author.

I did not know what to feel after seeing that. I read the book, and it helped me deal with what my brother was going through In the end I decided that the book did its job, and the fact that some of it was bullshit really did not matter to me at all.

Yep, he lied, it sucks. None of this would have happened if he had just put a disclaimer in front, but oh well! I would still reccomend it to others
