The boyfriends should be hung too, just for being pussies.

You're not very familiar with Iranian-interpreted Islamic law, are you?

Yes, I realize the girl is being punished simply because shes a girl.

Sharia law mandates that women who are raped be executed for allowing a man to become corrupt.

It's really just inapplicable to make the statement you made since men are rarely held accountable in situations like these.

Amnesty International

They're really only interested in human right campaigns that make the United States look bad.

Amnesty International can't stop the rock(s).

It's not something people hear about.

And more than that, why aren't any women's rights groups up in arms over this sort of thing?

They're calling for Joe Paterno's blood just because he suggested a girl might want to sleep with a guy, but the atrocities committed against women by radical islam slip totally under the radar. Why IS that?

Not really. They just don't look away when the democracies have a go too.

In any case, they're doing this particular one as well--and while writing letters probably won't do much, it's still better than doing nothing at all.

Because people are often more concerned about painting an entire religion poorly than condemning certain religious practices.

I still want to know why they're only concerned about this particular atrocity when it's comitted against minors.

They are concerned about it though.

That being said, don't most of the women's rights groups speak against Shariah law already?

Not that I've heard.

And I don't really see anything specifically about sharia law on that site.

Because

a) People would rather hear about the "Missing/endangered White Woman Of The Moment"
and
b) It's not our job to police the world.

Speaking of such silliness, whatever happened to the girl that was arrested a few years ago for having cocaine in her luggage? They said they were going to execute her or something... gah wish I could remember what country it was in x_X

Women's rights groups also can't do much of anything if the women don't condemn the action themselves. They can educate and inform women in these countries on things like genital mutilation, or the world on things like the dowry deaths in India, but so long as those women recognize it as something they must merely endure because they had the misfortune to be born women, then there's going to be very little change.

I believe the woman in question was Australian, and was targetted by some weird drug trafficking group who uses unsuspecting people to move their stuff.
