40k would've been better, as there are too many fantasy MMOs and I doubt this will be notable.

While I agree that there are too many fantasy MMORPGs out there, it's just what the people want. Sci-Fi MMORPGs are either not very successful (AO, Neocron, SW:G) or will be canceled before they even reach beta status.

The big advantage of Warhammer is that it has already an established and vast background. A world many people are at least remotely familiar with.

Of course, that does not mean that the game will be automatically good. Just look at SW:G.

But I have faith in Mythic.

--The Warhammer RTS that is being worked on looks spiuffy, and from what i have read, looks like the will be includeing everything from warbands level all the way up to the Warmaster/epic level battles.

Also I would think a 40k MMO would be realllly hard to pull off. I would rather see a Battletech MMO or Heavy Gear MMO.

Right now 40k has Dawn of war. The game is great and is supported by the best rts company out there. (relic)

I think a 40k mmo would be undoable or just turn out like planetside.

Yes, I'd love to see various factions in a 40k game with classes being varied by faction to match their 40k counterparts. A tau faction with Tau and Kroot, with classes such as a ranged stealth class based on Tau Stealth Suits, or basic Kroot (melee) or Kroot Hunters (ranged sniper type ala SWG rifleman) and the like.

Which is very sad, considering that there's only ever been one expansion, and then the EQOA team left to work on EQ2, so there is no support for EQOA at all. Hell, I bet if the servers crashed, Sony probably wouldn't even notice.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

The problem is that they would have to include marines. And there is no practical way to put marines int he game as a playable race. What are you going to do. Go into the shop and get your Mk 1 Crusader armor fixed. Or trade it in on a Mk 8 set that only the best chapters have. Oh and while you are there you are going to Buy a set of Terminator armor for that big raid against the Genestealer infested Hulk tomorrow night.

Umm. Yeah.. Not gonna happen. At least not without destroying all background. Also could you imagine the power a marine would need to have if you want loyalist and fanboys to be happy. They would have to start out more powerful that any other class would be 30 levels into the game.

It is a Universe that is unbalanced in terms of character on character play. And the story prohibits a normal player based economy.

40K would make a great RPG, it would make a great FPS (Firewarrior doesn't count) However it is not well suited to an RPG.

The arguement was over how successful. Not how good the game was.

I think a 40k game would be more interesting. There's a lot of world and story and things that go on outside the epic scale battles and people forget that.

40k would probably be harder to pull off, but would be more worth it if they did, I think.

[EDIT]: And it could be done without Space Marines. Space marines actually work best as a sort of NPC force anyway.

All of that was pretty stupid, to be honest.

You don't have to have anything as a playable character. Ideally your characters wouldn't be mostly government affiliated, because that ruins a good portion of the possible universe for them if you shove everyone into a religious fundie mindset from the word 'Go'.

I would bet money that 90% of the people who would want to play would want to be a Space Marine of some sort just like most people that play SWG want to be a Jedi. The difference is that in SWG you can become one. To do a MMOG based in 40K it would have to be something more akin to Necromunda, which would not be bad at all. I can see many ways to do the game that a lot of people would enjoy. But your main draw is going to be the Index Astartes and you can't have them as a playable character.

No i said a MMOG would be a bad idea. I think you would get some non hardcore players to enjoy it but to get a huge following like EQ or WOW you have to appeal to the main base and I think that the Main player base would be even worse than Star Wars fans. Meaning that they would be unhappy with anything that could be made into a playable MMOG

Casual players are your main base, don't fool yourself. Only when you make the casual player too powerful (WoW, I'm looking at you) does the lack of endgame content begin to effect everyone.

40k could work well as an MMOG in the right hands. SWG could've worked well in the right hands.

The only way I could see 40k going MMO is as a mmo FPS, and you could put an honor system in for the high end gear and such, and limit certain gear(come on, not like everyone can have terminator armor and a Landraider).

Really the problem with 40k is how fricking big the game is, Shit 40k really encompases like what 3-5 games sytems (Normal 40k, Epic, Inquistor, BFG, and maybe another I forgot).

---Or really, do what the game all ready does, make it a MMO RTS with RPG influnces, when you make a chracter, he starts out low, Like say as a scout, as you level up he gets promoted to a scout sgt, and now has a scout squad to command, then to full blown Space marine, and so forth. Would work great for orks I think.

This is off topic by approximately four degrees, but I've always been curious: whatever happened to Gorkamorka? It was a specialist game similar to Necromunda, except it featured mobs of Orks tooling around on ramshackle vehicles as they battled over scrap on a desert planet (in other words, it was a good natured parody of Mad Max).

I never played it, but at the time it was out I read White Dwarf and the battle reports made the game sound incredibly fun.

I guess that is true (as Inquisitor demonstrated), but given how bleak and hellish the 40K universe is in general (and the Imperium in particular D: ), it's just hard to care about Joe-Average Human's day to day life.
