Anyway, has anyone read it? If so, does it suck as bad as the last several, or has Jordan magically recovered his creativity and writing talent, that seem to have eloped together somewhere around book three?

I do agree it should've been done, but he laid out so many threads, and keeps inadvertantly creating new ones as he resolves the ones he had.
No villain ever just dies, they always sneak off and sew seeds of discord somewhere else. Even the Forsaken all come back from the dead. This is not the way to end things.
Also his penchant for angst has gone a bit past acceptable dramatic ennui. Characters aren't appearing guilt-ridden or tragic anymore, just whiny.
He's either unable to kill a character/tie off a loose end, or he's forcing himself to adhere to some book limit he decided upon.
Didn't buy it because I thought the last couple were total crap, but that's another matter.
It's not something people hear about.
I just read book 4 of Ice and Fire though, so I'm waiting a little because I know that I won't enjoy anything fantasy not written by martin when everything is still so fresh in my mind. Kildace fucked around with this message on 10-17-2005 at 12:21 PM.

When did the fourth book come out?

Today in the UK but I got it about a week early through Amazon next day shipping.

Comes out in November for us, iirc.

I got it yesterday and so far, I have to say it's really making up for the crapfest that was the last couple of books. I'm not far enough in to make any detailed judgement calls, but I've no complaints so far.
Been reading it myself, out of some sense of wanting to hurt myself badly for continuing the series. At about halfway through so far, haven't had much time to read really, but so far it isn't bad. It actually gets things back on track and gasp, the main character is in this one!

I've heard some good things about it, particularly about the progression with Mat and Perrin. If Rand got killed off at some point and never appeared again, I would cry no tears and I doubt the series would suffer much. Kuroi Madoushi fucked around with this message on 10-19-2005 at 09:43 AM.
