I blame Canada. Their fruity currency is leaking into American circulation and staining our money like a bad load of laundry.

That's a result of the scanning. Normally the different shades of green show up at different times depending on the light. Look at a 50 the next time you come across one and hold it at different angles to the light.

apparently the U.S. and one other country were the only ones in the entire world that has mono-colored money. And I think the treasury department was tired of counterfeiting so they made multi-color money (thanks, stupid canucks). The funny thing is that there were counterfeiters making the new bills before they were ever released to the public. Gotta love American Ingenuity!
