So... at work I get bored a lot.
I always find ways to occupy my time.

Now Bacon369 is a rubix cube guru and is teaching me the tricks and I can get pretty far... But I get stumped at one point in the cube.

Now I really wanna know, who here actually sat down and finished the cube without cheating.

I know its a simple math puzzle, but its one of those things where every step you get done or learn, you feel accomplished when you can complete it. I can get 3 steps done. But I can't figure out the next step. It just seems to get harder and harder.

But yeah, who here is also a rubix cubeophile?

well, if by Rubix Cube-o-Phile you mean, have i had sex with one, then yes, yes * Infinity.

As for actually doing a Rubix cube, i found it quicker to peel the stickers off and replace them.

I have broken many a Cube in frustration.

I am with you there, and when Bacon started showing me how to do it, I don't smash it untill I get to my stuck point. Other than that, Its not as frustrating as it was when I first touched when when I was a wee one...

I can solve one after a couple of weeks.

Anyone remember those contests where people solve these things in under a minute?

I remember finding one in 4th grade, everyday I kept it in my desk and would play with it whenever we got to the Math part of our day. Eventually I lost it.

I remember seeing the one guy do one in 1 1/2 minutes one handed... even the one who did one in each hand...

I don't want to be that geeky, but after watching the contests, I started picking it back up with uber frustration.

My Rubik's Cube has a little book that has a guide to solving it... using that, I can solve it.

I used to solve rubix cubes quickly when I was younger (like 6 or 7). Eventually I twisted one up so badly I couldn't work it out, and asked my father for help. He broke it open with a screwdriver and hammer, then reassembled it.

I took a look at the program and tried it out before, I have still to "Complete" a regular one without help.

Try solving a Rubik's Hypercube.

What is a Hypercube? I remember solving a regular cube once, but usually I can only get four of the six sides done before giving up.

A hypercube is a cube raised to a 4th physical dimension, just like a cube is a square raised to a 3rd physical dimension. After you spend 20 minutes trying to wrap your mind around that, you'll see that it's almost impossible to visualize. Anyway, there are simulations of a Rubik's hypercube floating around the net.

A guy that staffs AKon with me was solving cubes in random ways. At one point he and I were holding a discussion on networking old (and I mean OLD) mini-computers while he was solving one. The interesting part of this is, he looked at the cube for a few seconds then started solving it while talking to me and his eyes never went back to the cube. It was down low so I know it wasn't in his perhiperal vision either.

I knew a guy in high school who could solve a Rubik's cube in a timeframe between one and one-and-a-half minutes, from any position you could fathom it starting in. He also told me that no matter how a Rubik's Cube is currently configured, it is possible to solve in a constant number of moves. I don't remember the number, though.
I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?
