You know.. after reading that i found it really interesting that.. with all the historical and factual accounts they list in the "True or not" section of the article.. that the Virgin birth is still in the "truth" side..

The fact that Jesus is the son of God is one of the basic tenets of their religion.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Yeah, see, if that's not true... it sort of... you know... throws the entire religion out the window.

Bit of a misleading headline, and to be honest I've never really put much stock into Catholicism anyway. It... formalizes and ritualizes something that, in my opinion, is meant to be something deeply personal.

I've always agreed that Genesis could very easily not have been meant to be taken literally, especially since it was written hundreds of years after the 'fact'.

Why can't you believe it? Any non-Fundamentalist religious scholar could have told you this, whether they were a member of the Church or not.

Actually, the Church has stated for centuries that some parts are more akin to fables (see the Book of Job) to be taught as life lessons, rather than as true stories. Priests and nuns have taught this for just as long, especially the Jesuit priests.

The only ones who should be surprised here are Fundamentalists (and they're crazy enough that they'd ignore it anyway) or those totally ignorant of the religion.

I know that this conforms with what the general consensus has been for a long time, but the fact that they are altering the official party line in this way is pretty much unprecedented. I mean, this deals with tenets of the faith that are quite a bit more fundamental than those addressed by Vatican II.

Interesting. Statement of personal opinion is grounds for banning now?

Did I insult someone? No.
Did I make a comment about anyone or their preferences? No.
Did I state my opinion on a given subject? Yes.
Did I violate any rules about acceptable posts outside of a flame thread? Not that I can tell.

Truely impressive intrepretation of the rules in order to acheive a long-time goal. Congratulations.

Everyone else has just as much right to post whatever they want as you do; that "right" ending where I, the admin, decide it stops. Pointing out how stupid or unfunny you feel a thread (or poster) is will result in pain, unless the thread (or poster) is intensely retarded (take your chances). Comments such as "Looks like you're about to be banned!" will probably backfire in a way you don't wish them to.

I've seen so many people in violation of this it's not funny, but it's never been enforced. Not like it matters that much, bitching and screaming is what a decent percentage of the threads come down to in the end when someone posts a thread based on opinion or personal preference. Look at any given Nintendo DS or PSP thread.

Contained Conflict: Flamewars and other shit-flinging contests should be confined a thread with the flame tag, or the Flameball forum.

That's all that's said about flame threads, but it's indeed open for intrepretation. If someone felt that my comment was a flame, they need to grow thicker skin and learn the difference between an opposing opinion is and a flame.

That would require that the rules be enforced equally. All rules, all members, etc, etc, etc.

In general, it's probably for the best that some of the rules aren't enforced to the letter.
