Surprised there are no posts about this yet. I never played the original, but gameplay seems slower than CS:S without a whole lot more tactics. Every gun kicks absurdly and reloads very slowly. I have to move my mouse downward at near full speed to hold my crosshairs on a target while tap shooting.

Sniping is the only thing I find to be decent, as it requires not just pointing and clicking but a degree of leading and accounting for the weaving. I could play too defensively but it I only get kills when I surprise people and they only kill me when I get surprised.

People I play with who were original fans of DoD said it needs a lot of work but weren't specific.

On the other hand, I've played a lot of CS:S mods, including the Marvel Superhero Mod which is kind of spammy but has some neat tactics (you pick a hero like Invisible Woman (making you almost transparent) and Wolverine (regen HP when you hit someone with a bullet) and Iceman (they freeze for a moment when you hit them) and Hulk (massive health pool and big knockback from your shots)). Also played Warcraft 3 Mod where you pick a race, and level up, getting skills like Trueshot Aura, Thorns Aura, Vampiric Aura, Evasion and mroe. You can also spend cash on items instead of just guns, but the mod needs some work.

It's not total invisibility, and your gun is entirely visible. Works best on dark stages. In bright areas like Office, you're screwed. I found TMP + Wolverine to be my favorite because you 5 HP with every bullet.

It's not a mod you download, it's a custom server package. It increases your health by 5 everytime you score a hit with Wolverine through console commands. This means you get tons of lines of spam like "(Console) Player Father McKenzie's Health changed to 77. (Console) Player Father McKenaize's Health changed to 82. (Console Player Father McKenzie frozen. (Console) Player Father McKenzie unfrozen."

That's the only major flaw, the hideous amount of spam. The mod was just called Superhero, and I found a few servers on it through the in-game server browser.

I'll keep this short.

1. DoD: Source is amazing.

2. Any mini-mods for Counter-Strike that do not involve zombies immediately suck.

There IS a cs mini-mod? I was so hoping there was? Tell me there's a site like planet counterstrike or something that has all of them listed.

I mean shit like this Marvel stuff he's talking about, or that Warcraft crap that was (still is?) rampant for CS 1.6

Being able to punch as a secondary attack is probably the best thing that ever happned to DoD.

I ran around as Punchallax earlier today, went 12 - 18 pure punching/spading.

My only gripe is that all the fucking maps feel exactly the same. They're all bright and seem to carry the same basic layout. I want some dark and rainy shit, maybe some beach storming and French hedge running.

I feel like the majority of the game is turning a corner and shooting first, or laying down on a bartop and shooting people coming through a door.

There are blessed moments when there's a shootout down a mainstreet with some covers on both sides, but fighting there just means someone will come out from the side and shoot you in the face.

Yeah, but soldiers didn't have to wait 11 seconds to respawn because they didn't twitch fast enough to fire at the enemy they barely saw.

Shrug. I didn't like DoD: Source as much as I'd hoped I would. CS:S and ET were getting amazingly stale, but this hardly replaced either of them for me. I was attempting to cite grievances rather than whine, but whatever.

I agree about the map thing. In this one map (Can't remember the name) the sky is cloudy and there is the sound of rain and thunder.. Yet, the light being projected on the ground and walls is as bright as a mid summer's afternoon.

The map used to be dark, puddles of water used to fill the streets. I want that effect back.

I remember a nighttime, rainy Normandy beach from early early DoD that I really loved.

If that doesn't make a return I will be sad.

What maps does DOD: Source have? I played the original pretty regularly, trying to decide if I wanna shell out the $20 or whatever.

I have to agree that there is a freaking ton of kick on EVERY gun, except for the MGs when you put the tripod out.

I miss the alternate riflemen though. I liked their guns better. It's definalty alot harder, but I'm hooked justbecause I love the eye candy. And being able to play at native res with HDR on and High settings is luv between classes(6800GO of doom to the rescue).

Sure is, if you can run it okay. It takes a little bit more oomph to run it smoothly than HL2 M or CS:S.
