My uncle and grandmother are in Louisiana.
Hopefully everyone's evacuating, but if they aren't, best of luck to them.

Well, I guess it's not all bad, then.
HAHAHAHAHA! PRE-EMPTIVE FRENCH JOKE!

Falaanla Marr stopped staring at Deedlit long enough to write:
My grandma's young sister (A couple ECers that helped her before when she needed a bed? That's the one) and most of my grandpa's family.
Posted this in the other thread. Some of them left (To Texas or eastern Florida) but some are still there.
To those that pray or whatnot -- do your thing.

Hey guys, take note: don't build cities below sea level where Hurricanes can run through.
Because people, of course, had these ideas and such in their head when the cities were originally built.
Weather was nowhere near as much of a science as it is nowadays. Falaanla Marr fucked around with this message on 08-28-2005 at 10:57 PM.

News just said that if the levees break, the death toll could be in the thousands.
You reminded me of this song..
When The Levee Breaks
(Bonham/Jones/Page/Plant/Memphis Minnie)
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break, (X2)
When The Levee Breaks I'll have no place to stay.
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan, (X2)
Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.
Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home,
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They go no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago.
Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
All last night sat on the levee and moaned, (X2)
Thinkin' about me baby and my happy home.
Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....
I would never, ever be able to do that to my pets.

BeauChan probably says this to all the girls:
what's even more sad is that they've found dogs and cats locked in cages in peoples homes, abandoned.
I would never, ever be able to do that to my pets.
Curious: You ever been in/near an area when a hurricane hits?
People generally aren't able to take pets to shelters. People are told to cage the pets up before a major storm, also, if I remember right, so the pets can't get free after the storm and get themselves killed.
If they're caged with food and water, they stand a better chance of surviving then if they were just left running around.
I'm sorry, but if I had to make a choice between saving myself by going to a shelter or staying home with my pet and endangering myself...the pet stays.
It sucks, but humans > pets. Falaanla Marr fucked around with this message on 08-29-2005 at 01:16 AM.

...You do realize that it can be pretty much impossible to get out of there, right? Many people don't have cars but can get to a shelter still.
You're still better off leaving the pet behind with food and water as opposed to taking it with you...

ok, my last post was not a serious one, but I do remember seeing an organization that would charge people who left their pets behind - so, instead of having them possibly die because they couldn't escape, why not let them loose to see if they can save themselves?
isn't it that when bad weather is coming, animals are the first to respond/flee?

Beau, no offense, but you really have no fucking clue what you are talking about.
I used to live 15 minutes away from Galveston, which is an island off the coast of Texas in the Gulf of Mexico, where incidentally this hurricane is, and even I don't claim to know as much about hurricanes and emergency situations involving them as I probably should be able to.

Seriously, do they even get hurricanes in Canada?

Also, one of the guests in the hotel had her finger slammed in a door that closed by iteslf and it cut her finger in half. Since the police and ambulances aren't responding to any emergency calls right now, they can really do nothing for her.
