I finally have a place at university.

God, after all this time of not knowing what to do, this is such a goddamn relief.

Next year I shall begin Classical and Historical Archaeology at Sheffield University. A very good and lively university and the best archaeology department in Britain.

I'd previously thought I'd be more interested in the History side of things but the blend of science, investigation and history offered by archaeology is quite tempting. Having done only humanities for two years, I miss science a bit.

I don't know if I'll be any good but damn is it a relief to know what I'm going to do at university at last.

Heck, everytime I speak with someone from around London I have to concentrate really hard, or else I will miss the half of what the person is saying.

I came to the conclusion that the English people are only English speakers that I do not understand.

Mine too!

I'd considered doing my B.A. Honours (Archaeology) at Sheffield, until I decided to specialise in Egyptology. Your field-work experience will be an absolute blast

Well, not too much to tell, I'm still an undergrad myself, but if you like the idea of figuring out how and why people did what they did hundreds and thousands of years ago, I think you'll enjoy it

Oooh.. That's one of my "choices if I wasn't an artist".

Achaelogoy, marine biology, animal sciences, anthropology...

I'm all into sciences.. I was really good at biology, but sucked at physics and chemistry because they involved math. ...

...

Which is why I'm going to be living under a bridge as an artist.

I have a good memory for stupid shit. Which is why I excelled at biology, history, and the socials. I never had to study for those to score A's.. Math though.. shit.. I was lost once I hit HS. All through grade school I was pulling 90's in math.. HS started, dropped to low 50's.

Which looked funny on my report with all of my high 80's and 90's. But yeah, I sucked at math. LETTERS DO NOT BELONG IN MATH!

See I Never understood why Variblies triped so many people up, The only explantion I can think of is something I stumbled upon From my stepmother. Sitting one day, she asked why it too a little time for me to multiply thing sin my head, 'splained to her I was doing the math in my head, going through the steps like I do for any problem, then she asked why didn't I just remember the answer? And it dawned on me, There might be alot of people like my step mother. When she does Multiplication, she isn't doing the math, but just remembering a times table, so why you start putting stuff that wasn't in all those times tables you rembered, you get flummoxed. Just a little sidenote. I saw something about a month ago (I think it was on Animal Planet's Most Extreme, in one of the people segments) about a guy who could calculate extraordinarily complex math problems in his head. He closed his eyes, and visualized the numbers. The segment went on to explain that, since a large chunk of our brain is devoted to vision, this gave him additional resources while processing the problem.

Congrats, Nik, on finding a career you'll enjoy.

that's pretty damn cool man, sciences are killer! one of my buddies out here in Oregon just got back from a month at pompei and herculaneum(sp?). He said it was the best trip of his life, well, until his professors (husband and wife team) decided that they were going to a club and forgot to mention it was a goth club. can you imagine a 6'3" white boy in an orange shirt and green shorts in a goth club? heh, i wish i had a picture of that.

but anyway, good luck with the archaeology. I almost went with that, but went with Geography/Geology instead. Although those disicplines in the UK and the rest of Europe are supposedly different then they are out here in the states, funny fact.

It all balances out once you get to diffEQ, when they remove the numbers entirely as well as replace all the nice, familiar, letters with Greek.

If you're a first year you're pretty much certain of a space in halls. I applied really late and managed to get quite a nice pad.

And don't talk to me about Forensic science students. I dated one briefly this year. When you hear somebody talking about blood spatters in a Welsh accent for god knows how long your brain twitches for days afterwards.
