Topic: AVI Playback problems

I just recently updated my computer stuff to and AMD 64 and 6800GT and running Windows XP x64.

For the most part, everything is all right. But god damn is avi playback terrible. I did the usual Media Player Classic and Defiler Pack which has served well in the past. But not now. Everything is kind of washed out and the coloration is way off. So, on Khyron's suggestion I downloaded XviD. Now some(one fansubbing group) avis work, but most still are terrible. In a desperate attempt, I DLed official DivX codec and that broke my previous succes, and still looks like a total pile of shit.

Any thoughts on fixing this?

I believe this is a driver issue. Are you using Forceware 77.72? Might try updating.

I suggested xvid? I sure as hell don't remember that.

I usually recommend ffdshow over xvid.

there's a workaround for it instead of going thru with drivers.

Click Tools and choose Options. Click on the Performance Tab and then click advanced. In the Video Acceleration area of that box REMOVE the checkmark from Use Overlays and PUT a checkmark in use high quality mode. That should take care of the washed out look.

Yep. The newest drivers out are also suppost to have fixed this. Or you can get the Xtream G drivers which are independent, but very high quality.
