The flight home was kind of grueling. America feels a little weird now. It is kind of odd to be back in it.
How are things here?
Oh yeah, and the trip was the best thing ever. Snugglits fucked around with this message on 08-06-2005 at 07:42 PM.
Some people are like Slinkys... Not really good for anything, But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Are you a cock-smoking Japanophile who's convinced they're the master race now?
Come on, Parcelan, you know me better than that.
There are things I love about Japan, like the convenient public transportation system and the safety. You can walk through most of Tokyo at any time alone and feel totally safe. It is amazing. And the wealth of things to do at night is spectacular.
As for the people, they do seem to know how to have a good time, and I think they are generally better-natured than Americans. But, they're certainly not without their faults, either.

Our public transportation is awful in most cities and I don't feel safe in any city after dark and in some cases at any time.
So for me, at least, yes it is that special. Kegwen fucked around with this message on 08-07-2005 at 04:50 AM.

Yep, though some parts of Chicago are safe at night most are incredibly dangerous. There are some places where you have a 95% chance of dying if you go at night and aren't part of whatever gang is there. The same goes for the other big cities in the US. I have heard that some larger European cities are dangerous at night, too, though? Tokyo and Osaka were totally safe anywhere at any time.
Public transportation in Chicago is decent, but nothing compares to Japan's Railway system, I think. It's absolutely amazing and incredibly robust. In the US, you basically have to have a car to get around.

ACES! Another post by Suddar:
Did you have to sleep in a box?
Nope, normal hotels greatly outnumber capsule hotels. And you don't really have many options on what to do with your stuff if you stay at a capsule...
You know, being a gigantic pussy and all?
It's not something people hear about.

That sounds like a flame outside of a flame thread. But ya know, parc is a horrible mod that only bans people for not breaking the rules.

Making jokes isn't restricted to just flame threads.
And which banning would that be? Jackman's attempts to derail a politics thread? Sure outside the rules there.
Technically, since you're bringing personal insults into a non-flame thread, I could be well within bounds of banning you. And, since nobody cares about you, I could just leave you there.
But since I'm such a nice guy, I'll let you off with a final warning.

Ja'Deth Issar Ka'bael had this to say about Reading Rainbow:
Did you buy a lot of Japanese hentai?
Hentai just means "likes weird", so it could be anything perverted, really. But in the sense you are likely referring to, the drawn stuff, no. I perused some rather large mixed adult collections but didn't buy anything. New H-games cost 7500 or more JPY. The prices on porn videos is also quite high, roughly 5000 JPY or so per DVD. As a novelty, it would've been funny, but it isn't worth it when I have access to torrent sites anyway...

So quoth Lechium:
Are there not alot of cars on the road? Is that why the public transportation system is so efficient, because buying a car is too expensive? Or are there still quite a few people who bike around?
The roads are nice but the large cities are ruled by pedestrians, so there are crosswalks/stoplights everywhere and streets are not very wide. The small percentage who do drive fill the roads up pretty well. There is not much parking anywhere, either... simply put, a car is far too inconvenient. Gas is expensive, and the process of getting a license is very hard.
Bikes are quite common, too. But, a lot of people park their bike at a train station and train to where they want to go. In the big cities, you can get to within a few minute's walk of anywhere by train or subway.

Yeah, who cares about Japan? Tell us about the car.
I drove it around quite a bit today. I'm still a little jet lagged so I am going to wait another day or so before driving extensively. But I do love to drive it so.
Before I left I had broke it in, changed the oil, and then did 1/4 mile and autocross in it. Now after being gone for nearly 9 weeks I am relearing it. It's so much fun... Snugglits fucked around with this message on 08-07-2005 at 09:33 PM.
