On one hand it doesn't bother me so much because it is Sony, but on the other hand those who actually play for fun probably got hurt most by these individuals exploits.
Duping happens. It's how the company handles it that matters.

Correction, DAoC never had a duping problem. Mythic tracked money very well, and has cleared up any dupe bugs within an hour of server uptime. Their ability to quickly fix dupe bugs and exploits is something all MMO companies should look into and copy. Well, maybe not exploitation. They were fantastic about fixing exploiting from bugs on their end; they didn't get good about radar until the last few months, which really did hurt the game.
As far as other games that have had dupes though, off the top of my head I can list a number of games that had working ones for a decent amount of time. Actually, I don't need to. Pretty much any major MMO outside of DAoC and FFXI have had long working dupes.

Me and my city used to buy 1 million gold a week on Ebay. All Duped gold. At one point, if you didn't buy duped gold or have duped gold on Death server you were uncool.
I was told from the person that I bought gold from that his income was about 2 grand a week on duped gold.
Duping and cheating sucks.

Proven dupe bugs exist. There hasn't been a time during release and much of beta where there wasn't at least one working dupe. Just because there's no Dr. Twister to make them popular doesn't mean they don't exist.
