A Bards Tale:
Uhhhhh.. odd, very odd indeed. The humour is a little more childish than I hoped for (breasts lolololol) but there are some parts where I truly laughed, the narrator is hilarious. That first wolf you kill is simply a golden moment, had me in tears. It makes fun of the whole RPG adventure genre.

Took me hours to get used to WASD controls, which you are bsically forced to use unless you want to remap the whole (complex as hell) control system.

Battlefield 2:

AWESOME WITH A CAPITAL A

Think BF1942 with that Desertwhatever mod, but 400% better and more refined. So much fun.

Now I'm off to play Battle for Middle Earth.

After I couldn't find Breath of Fire 4 at the used game place (never loan your crap out unless you have the address of the other person and a lot of dead animals), I bought Chrono Cross. The system is taking a bit of time to get used to, and Kid is likely going to get very, very annoying from what I can see, but the game has one of the things that just set me off, love-wise: a persistant, well-polished art style. It's one of the reasons I loved BoF4, the direction and vision in the visual style of the game. Neat.

I've also been playing Lunar Legends, though I had to stop. The sheer amount of predictability bogged me down, and when it wasn't predictable it was kinda irritating. It's amusing, but only so much one can take in one sitting. And so far I like the bad guys much more than the good guys, with the exception of Jess. More ambition. Go them.

Good premise, shitty plot

Toss that along with Chocobo's Dungeon onto the very, very small heap of Square's failures.

I'm gonna hafta disagree, and remove CC from that pile, and toss Saga Frontier in, as much as square is a giant for the story their games tell, its also the implementation with which they tell it, I loved CC's gameplay, and the overall size of the game, awesome graphics at the time, still one of the best soundtracks out there.

Saga Frontier on the other hand may have an awesome story, that I will never know because trying to play that shit gives me a fucking aneurism.

The first Saga Frontier here in the states wasn't terrible. Kinda fun having the alternate stories. Sequel sucked ass.

I agree with CBTao, I loved Crono Cross and Saga Frontier pissed me off. I got stuck so many times that by the end of the week, I'd gotten absolutely nowhere and was refusing to play video games. The latter half lasted about eight hours :-p

On a side note, I actually enjoyed Chocobo Dungeon. Well, part 2 anyway. Never played part 1. It was ridiculous and stupid, but fun for some unknown reason.

Thought SaGa Frontier was a great game, enjoyed the heck out of it. Yeah, it was easy to get stuck but you could push on with a lot of effort eventually. The combat could get crazy and executing all the right combos and learning the right skills could be fun. I know there was one or two stories I got stuck on almost endlessly.

SaGa Frontier 2, I have to say... What the hell. It's been years since I touched the game, but as far as I can tell, most people are born with magic and some aren't and those that aren't are taboo but this guy born without it makes himself an Iron Empire or something (apparently Iron dampens magic) and take over a lot of the world. I liked this because it had a Delita/Rand al'Thor feel to it with all the common guy becomes great leader caught up in politics thing.

So you become this Alexander the Great type figure and then when you're finally starting to like the character, he DIES and his empire collapes without him. Then you're stuck playing some guy who isn't really all that interesting or likable and the only reason you keep playing is because you liked that climax that was the middle of the game so much. Only problem is it never quite escalates back up to that level.

Come to think of it, I may be thinking of an entirely different game. Can anyone who has played SaGa Frontier 2 confirm/deny this for me?

You forgot Ehrgeiz. While the main fighting sucked, the Diablo-ish RPG that came with the game was oddly fun.

The pain of collecting all the characters and nailing down every last ending, etc, etc will drive you insane.

I never did *complete* the game. I had an 8 page memory card dedicated to CC. The first 5 or 6 pages were saves in random spots as I went through the games, the 8th page was nothing but save points prior to beating the game for different endings.

And that's why I love emulators. I never saw all of them from the Crono Trigger but once I beat it on ZSNES, I just used a couple gameshark codes, some convenient save points, and the ability to speed up the game and whizzed through the rest of the endings.

And Ehrgeiz as a fighting game sucked, but was fun for the "I'm playing as Sephiroth! (Or Tifa, or Cloud...whoever)" factor for a little while. The RPG part of it, on the other hand, was amazing amounts of fun.

Edit: Oh, and Ehrgeiz was made by Dream Factory. It was only licensed by Square.

I tried the Battlefield 2 demo, just wasn't my cup of tea. I think I'd like it better if you were trying to capture bases ala PlanetSide instead of flags in a semi-open area.

Since GPG officially announced Supreme Commander, I've been playing a lot of Total Annihilation, trying to beef up my skills. Since I quit playing, there has been a lot of progress done with 3rd party AI's, so I'm having fun actually having something that kicks my ass for a change. Also, I've been playing Dungeon Siege 2 Beta on and off. It's closer to a pure action RPG than Dungeon Siege, which was almost a real time tactical game. I'm not sure if I'm going to like it as well as I enjoyed Dungeon Siege or not, but I've got it pre-ordered either way. Yes, I am a Chris Taylor fanboy.

I played through Republic Commando recently. It was shorter than I would have liked. They skipped a year's time between the Geonosis level and the Republic Assault Ship level that could've been filled in better. On the whole, though, it was an excellent game. I loved the boys in Delta. That's the way that sort of game should be done. It made me happy. Now I want more.

Is there any way to de-suck the BF2 server browser?
Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

I'm trying to be a cool sniper in BF2.

Is this a good idea? Some maps there are plenty of spots to find and snipe people, and some maps I go 1-10 because I can't find a single good spot.

Grammar is your enemy! - While being able to understand someone's sentences might seem like a good idea for a proper essay, complaining on a forum scarcely leaves time for such trivialities.
