That's right ladies and gents, tomorrow is my official one year post-op anniversary. For those of you who haven't been playing along, last July 2nd I underwent gastric bypass surgery, more specifically roux-en-y.
So much has changed in my life since last July. I had my gallbladder out in early January, then I moved my son and myself to Indiana and away from my husband (someday he'll be my ex ). I've been employed (start new contract on Wednesday) and I have made a handful of amazing friends.
I've also discovered self-confidence. I spent six years of my life downright miserable and food was my only comfort. But lately I've become quite confident in myself and tend to go for what I want. It's absolutely amazing.
So yes.. I just thought I'd share in my joy with everyone since so many of you helped me through this hurdle of my life. And I want to take the time, again, to thank you.
Thank you.
And in case you're curious.. In 12 months I lost 283 pounds. Two weeks ago when eating breakfast with my dad and stepmom I remarked how I doubted I'd be down 300 by my anniversary date. My stepmom gasped and said in sweet southern drawl "Oh Emily! You have lost so much already! You don't look anything like your old self at all." to which my dad added "Really, 278 (that's what I was at the time) is nothing to sneeze at. And we know you will continue to lose."
He's right. A year ago I was hoping just to drop 200.. but now.. I want to lose another 75-100 after this. Then I'll be ready for plastic surgery.
My eating habits are pretty much like everyone else. There are food I have to avoid (lettuce), and some foods that agree with me based on how they are prepared (poached eggs don't agree, but scrambled do). I can tolerate about 16 grams of sugar in one sitting and if I go over that I break out in sweats, get dizzy, or worse, get sick (that only happened once). I can eat about 6-8 ounces of food at a time, depending on how hydrated I am.
And now.. for the pictures.
Any questions??
I bet you hit the 300 mark by Xmas for sure!
Some people are like Slinkys... Not really good for anything, But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
I have nothing else to add other than grats, I think.

I'm so very happy for you. Its not easy to lose all that and have the curage to keep it up.I bet you hit the 300 mark by Xmas for sure!
By Christmas? I'll have the 17 pounds off by August!
And kudos to you for being smart, and living correctly and not taking what you have altered for granted.
Disclaimer: I'm just kidding, I love all living things.
