Channeling the spirit of Sherlock Holmes, Naimah absently fondled Watson and proclaimed:
Netflix is better then buying dvds. I'll go through 5 or more dvds a week for $18 bucks a month. Pretty good deal to me.
Unless you actually like to have a wide choice at any given moment, rather than scheduling what you're going to watch based on what the company sends you.

Verily, the chocolate bunny rabits doth run and play while Naimah gently hums:
I watch movies once more often then not. So not getting to keep them isn't much of a thorn in my side.
Ah, but that's you. Some of us like watching movies more than once. Hence the inaccuracy of your "Netflix" is better statement.
--Satan, quoted by John Milton
Case in point: about two days ago I go looking to see what I feel like watching. The inner dialogue went sort of like this.
"Let's see. I got Star Wars... Lord of the Rings... Spiderman... Pitch Black... Bad Boys II... Willow... Spaceballs... Training Day... Saving Private Ryan... Enemy at the Gates... wait a fucking second, Training Day!? When did I buy Training Day!?"
I had rented it almost two months ago and totally forgot about it. Ended up owing Hollywood Video thirty bucks for it.

Yes, I did make an unqualified statement. It would have been more correct to say, "I think Netflix is better because you get more diverse content for you dollar." Happy now?
And yeah I like having a library, because sometimes I'm just in the mood to watch something again without having to plan in advance. Case in point: Predator 2. I've seen it a thousand times. Used to have it on tape. Wore the tape out. Same thing with John Carpenter's "The Thing".
Besides, collections are the only way I can see some shows like Miami Vice.

But parting with them is unthinkable because I might want to watch them again sometime... I kept trying to get my mother to watch the LOTR films since she liked the book so much. That's why she doesn't want to see them, she said...

I don't know why I buy DVDs - last one I watched more than once was the extended edition of The Two Towers. Most of the DVDs I've bought that weren't gifts were impulse buys - Shrek, Monsters, Inc, Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2, The Incredibles... only watched once. But parting with them is unthinkable because I might want to watch them again sometime... I kept trying to get my mother to watch the LOTR films since she liked the book so much. That's why she doesn't want to see them, she said...
I don't understand people who REFUSE to watch a film adaptation of a book/game/whatever because they watched/read/played the original. I mean, if the first was so great to begin with, why are they so afraid of having their, I don't know, memories of it replaced with something horrible?
I mean, when Starship Troopers the movie first came out, don't ask me why but I loved it. Then a couple years ago I found the book and read it. It was kind of out there, but I loved it in and of itself, without even considering the movie and/or the book to be related to each other in anything more than title.
Then again, Jurassic Park 2 brought stinging tears to my eyes....of anger.
I guess I'm just a hypocrite :\ But still, she should give the movies a chance before passing judgement.

Okay, so I can't find it anymore but I read in the Entertainment section of CNN.com sometime in the last three or four months that they're doing a theatrical rerelease of both volumes as one three hour long movie. Since Miramax no longer has to worry about appeasing Disney as the movie would surely grab a NC-17 rating with both of the films combined.

Awesome movie.
And I'm a bargain shopper. I can usually find DVDs for 10 bucks or less, especially given the older ones Wal-Mart carries. Amazon has good prices, too.

And yeah, I buy pretty much all my DVDs from Amazon. Sometimes I'll snag some from a for sale/trade forum on Anandtech, seeing as most of the traders there are good guys. I'd trust most of them more than alot of online retailers.
Only found the time to watch some was during exam studying...as funny as that is. Doomie fucked around with this message on 05-05-2005 at 12:55 PM.

Watching that movie is the cinematic equivalent of being forced to eat a shit sandwich. Without the bread. Or condiments.
That comment is all the more witty when you know that the guy who made the movie was a fertilizer salesman from El Paso.
I've watched Arrested Development constantly since I got it.
I need to get a job so I can get the more expensive series like 24.
I currently have Varsity Blues, Badder Santa, All five of the Jersey Trilogy, Spirited Away, Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again, and Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail.
I intend to add Boondock Saints, Constantine, and The Matrix at least.
We have a 3-shelf bookcase filled with Dvds, with two layers per shelf. Then we have 3 shelves of another bookcase with UBT's DBZ video collection. Also double-layered on eace shelf.
Plus Josh has his own DvD collection as well.
If we get in the mood for a kung-fu or samurai flick, or maybe a Godzilla film, or maybe something funny, or a good action flick, possibly sci-fi, all we have to do is spend 20 minutes staring at the collection before we find something we all agree on!
go-go Godzilla!

My one cousin has a fairly good sized walk in closet almost completely full of DVDs. To fix the problem of finding things he has a computer that strictly keeps track of his DVDs. Bastard.
