I don't know my hondas very well. Does that have VTEC/iVTEC? My motor is basically the same thing but in a mechanical flavor -- VVTLi. At 6200 rpm there is a cam switch. Snugglits fucked around with this message on 04-23-2005 at 02:32 AM.

There was much rejoicing when Jaggedpine Mistwalker said this:
Yes it's DOHC VTEC (one of only 5 Honda engines ever to have it, B16A, B18C, C32A, C30A, and mine the H22A1/4). My cam switch is at 5250rpm, although depending on mods and how it's tuned, people will set it anywhere from 4400rpm to 6000, using a VAFC.
They're just now getting around to making chips for the matrix despite the celica gt-s/2zzge motor having been around for so long. The unichip came out first but obviously it's not going to affect all the variables since it's piggyback. It looks like the HYDRA EMS may be an option soon, which would probably allow changes to redline and cam switch. From what I hear, 5800 is the lowest that you want to switch with this motor, anyway, though.

I doubt it, i'm putting down about 220 hp and 250 torque.
This is the only picture I had handy of my cluster
Basically my rev limiter is where the tac ends. The engine is capable of going to 7,900 rpms on the stock valvetrain but I wanted to be safe and keep it reasonable so I set it at 7,400. Stock redline is 6,700. Blindy. fucked around with this message on 04-23-2005 at 11:46 AM.

This made me think, I never look at my cluster at all anymore, hell I don't have have the lights on for it.
Great job guys!
Not that it matters much. The power falls off so quickly after 5200 that probably the only reason it makes it that high is the gigantic flywheel. Hooray for momentum!

Yet, despite their excesses, they probably still spend less than you would.

Wrong.
More revs are typical of a smaller engine. My revs are only temporary and with 6 speeds I can keep pretty low on the highway. Sure, I can crank them out sometimes, but typically they're pretty low.
But a 4 liter engine cannot lose liters. So it will eat more gas.

I think the Jettas/GTIs run a 3.39, which is reasonably tall, all things considered.

Pff. I run a 4.625 out back, and even with 29 inch tires, that's insanely short. Guys usually run gears like that in their rock crawlers(5.11 and 4.56 are the popular gearsets). So maybe my perspective's a bit skewed, but a 3.39 is goddamned tall.
Of course, if I had taller gears, fifth gear would be entirely useless. Goddamned Nissan engine designers.
