So of course, Diego Sanchez beats Kenny Florian handily...
But OMFG what a war between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar!!! I had picked Griffin before the fight started, I loved his dry wit and hamming it up for the camera, he didn't take himself too seriously. (unlike the flamboyant Sanchez
Griffin and Bonnar went the entire 3 rounds, trading blows like thier lives depended on it! Griffin seemed to dominate the first round and the two remaining rounds looked to be fairly evenly matched but by the end of the 3rd round I had figured that Bonnar was going to walk away with it. When the judges scorecards were read and Griffin's arm was raised I was floored!!
My GOD what a fight!! Everyone was on thier feet at the venue it was at, hell even I was on my feet alone in my living room with my wife laughing a bit from the computer room as I paced the floor watching the Griffin - Bonnar fight.
These two fighters going the full 3 rounds in the Light Heavywieght division really paid off for the UFC as a whole. Some people were calling "bullshit" from the stands, you could hear them when the winner was announced. I thought it was quite gracious of the owners and the President of the UFC to award Kenny Bonnar a contract as well as the two winners. Damned impressive!!
The "feature fight" of Ken Shamrock and Rich Franklin was pretty lackluster after that 3 round brawl!
The Ultimate Fighter: Season 2 will include Heavyweights (over 205 lbs) and Welterweights (170 lb division)
Now for next week and UFC 52. Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddel!! I'm a huge fan of Randy "The Natural" Couture and hope to see him keep his championship belt. But Liddel is a hell of a guy too and quite a contender! Also there's a Welterwieght Title fight that night too between Welterwieght champ Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg. These little guys are so damned fast and scrappy that it might be a better fight than the Light Heavyweight fight of Couture and Liddel! My pick is Hughes to retain the title...

UBT got a whole lot of nerve:
All I want to know is..... did Ken Shamrock win?
Lost. He's way too rusty and jumped into a fight expecting his skills to be the same as always. He tripped twice trying high round kicks, and the 2nd time he was put down for good.
It's not something people hear about.
I'd have loved to see Ken Shamrock in his prime, his pre WWF days, go against Tito Ortiz.
I recall the previous fight having a lot of slips, granted that might be from all the blood from the HUGE gash on Griffin's nose.
Fret not, it's on again tonight at 10pm EDT on Spike.

It's on yet again tonight at 11:05 EDT!! Guess they're really pushing for season 2 and for the Pay Per View fight this weekend.
It's also unfortunate that Diego is such a tool personality-wise, since he was easily the best fighter on the show.
But yeah, the Griffin/Bonnar fight was amazing. The UFC should be orally pleasuring them daily, because they saved the program; were it not for them, the highlights of the UFC's BIG HUGE OH MY GOD CABLE PREMIERE would have been 90 minutes of promo, one match between two unknowns that went all of a minute and a half (if you ignore the full minute they spent circling each other), and Ken Shamrock, probably their biggest legend (in the public eye, anyhow)/veteran/ace/etc. getting utterly curbed. I clapped myself when Bonnar got the second contract; after that war, he deserved it, and they'll make good money on a rematch later, given proper hype.
I don't think Shamrock's slips were due to the mat, though. The first one seemed like a defensive measure; Franklin was going for a second punch, Shamrock dropped down to try a leglock. The second I'd attribute to a fucked-up equilibrium, as Franklin caught him with a pretty good kick to the side of the head just beforehand; he looked a bit shaky afterwards. Hate to say it, but his time may just be up; he's lost four of his seven fights in the last five years, and of the three he won, two matches were against outmatched opponents (Alexander Otsuka, who after a decade in the business is 3-12-0, and Sam Adkins, who in just over six years is 6-16-2).
In either case, it definitely showed both sides of the UFC; on one hand, the more common quick-and-dirty fights, and on the other hand, the ugly, ugly wars of attrition that come up every now and then. White and Azzarello are probably happy.

You mean you came to Las Vegas and didn't tell anyone here ?
I'm pretty sure I remember reading when he first started posting(not that that's saying much; he's been a member for two years and has made forty-two posts ) that he lives in Vegas.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I think he's actually in the Air Force and stationed at Nellis. Snoota fucked around with this message on 04-12-2005 at 07:01 PM.
