Screenies can be found there too. Here are two.

Edit: Look at all the copied and pasted tie fighter squadrons in the last picture.

I really want to play THAT again! I mean, it's so super neato!
Your sarcasm meter just broke.

Hush you. Rebellion is a good game.
And wow... look at all the pretty Tie Fighters, sitting in the exact same position all over the screen. Snoota fucked around with this message on 01-21-2005 at 08:04 AM.

tank variants of TIE fighters? O_o
Tie Crawlers, yes. Part of the expanded universe for a long time.
edit: oh, didn't notice that one x-wing squadren lying in wait hidden near the planet... thought they were outnumbering the enemy 8 to 6
edit2: the top screen looks real badass

You'd think with a shitton of world like they have there'd be more variety in the imperial fleet
edit: also, wouldn't it be more effective not to turn ties into tanks and just have them kill their enemys from miles above where they can't be shot back at? diadem fucked around with this message on 01-21-2005 at 08:54 AM.
that is the coolest fucking thing ever. as long as the game doesn't turn into a micromanagement shitfest, it sounds like it has great potential to go along with the awsome greaphics
I wish them the best.

Needless to say, most people laugh.
This game looks great, though. I can hardly wait to be the Imps.

Anyway, from what I read in CGW, there isnt supposed to be much resource management, more like "keep your planets, dont let your troops die in space transports, then fight on the ground with what you have left"

The logic (in the EU) for TIE crawlers was that it would be an immense savings on material if you made the entire Imp army, navy, etc work with modular parts. So you take a TIE core, slap some treads on it, give it heavier weaponry and slightly better armor, and Vader's your uncle.Needless to say, most people laugh.

the put heavier guns in it.... in atmosphere.... than on 0 g?
Still gotta propel the mass, or something like that. If it was like that, star destroyers would move as fast as x-wings.

I'm just glad they've finally gotten away from making every game about the movies. Now if only I could get my Rogue Squadron game set in the New Jedi Order I could die a happy man.
Pfft, the perfect setting for the Rogue Squadron games would be...the Rogue Squadron book series!

The idea was that the whole vehicle would be heavier, bigger power supply, etc, so it could afford to carry a heavier-duty weapon. Keep in mind that TIE fighters are like paper, and when you fire a weapon, it pushes you back.
Can just imagine a TIE fighter with a big gun firing...the two IE wings stay in place, little ball fuselage goes flying backwards.

If memory serves, this is being made by the people who made Command & Conquer: Generals, which I loathed entirely. So I'm somewhat intrinsically fearful, but I've got my fingers crossed for this one nonetheless; it'll be great if they pull it off right.
It's being developed by Petroglyph Games, which is comprised of a lot of old Westwood Stuios talent. I don't know if the guys who made C&C Generals were part of the old Westwood crew or not.

ACES! Another post by Karnaj:
The part about being able to call in fleet support on the planet, however, is kinda silly. Star Wars ship weapons are so ridiculously powerful that an ISD would demolish the battlefield in a single shot of one of its light turbolasers. A bombardment of a planetary shield as a prelude to a ground assault, however, would be pretty cool. Set up your fleet, tell them to go to town, then attend to other matters until they bring it down.
Makes me think of KotOR when Malak completely destroyed Taris with his Star Destroyer equivalents
