They sound like (to me) Rush, BIG TIME.
They still rock hardcore.
You'd know them if you listen to a rock station, they have the single "Favour House Atlantic"
Anyone else hear these guys?
I can see the Rush comparison...but I only have one Rush song so I don't really know.

Suddar's unholy Backstreet Boys obsession manifested in:

So that's why people keep comparing them to Rush.

They're pretty good. Modest Mouse is another pretty good Indie Rock band I've started listening too.-Tok
How is Modest Mouse indie rock?
Admittedly, I've only heard that Float On song...

Modest Mouse used to be sort of, kind of, a little indie before they were popular. Or at least they sounded it so people considered them to be regardless.
Now "indie" has caught on. It really has nothing to do with being independent, it's just a genre. Like alternative isn't really alternative anymore. It's just what people call the sound.
Modest Mouse really has nothing to do with indie. C&C aren't really all that indie either. They're more like an alternative to alternative. Because people are kind of tired of that now, I guess.
Alright then, I'm done!

There aren't any in Rush, either.
The joke was that both Geddy Lee and whoever it is who sings for Coheed and Cambria sing a castrato.

Verily, Arttemis doth proclaim:

So it had nothing to do with any of the members of band kicking ass with their respective instruments? alright then, that's good to know

Arttemis obviously shouldn't have said:

I know, it was a supporting statement. I probably shouldn't have trailed off my comment with ...'s.
In anycase, the thing about Co&Ca that I like is that their songs are all part of one larger story they're telling. I think there is work on a comic based on the songs that should be coming out soon.

Imagine Geddy Lee, backed by a punk rock group, not playing the bass. That's kind of like Coheed and Cambria.
Seriously, though, they aren't that bad. I've only heard a few songs, admittedly, but their overall sound seems repetitive. It's kind of the new punk legacy in action: power chording one's way to victory, as it were.

The big single they're playing down here on the local Alt/Modern/Indie/whatever Rock station is Ocean Breathes Salty, which I think is somewhat close to what people think of as an Indie Rock sound. But like Suddar said, it's really just the broad name for any of new rock that gets released now. The same as Alternative was in the 90's. I was listening to NPR on New Year's while running some errands and some reviewer named Modest Mouse as his favorite Indie rock band of 2004, so I'm clearly not the only one who puts them in this category.

Yeah, a lot of bands do that. They're called concept albums.
Ayreon does that pretty much exclusively, Dream Theater has one (Scenes from a Memory, there's a post in the past few months with the entirety of the album hosted for download. Not sure if the links are still up), and I know that there are a lot more than I'm not aware of. Problem is, nobody ever hears about them.
I concept albums. Kegwen fucked around with this message on 01-10-2005 at 11:54 PM.
Well, to be more technical, how is a band that was NOT signed before recently (except, I belive the E6 guys had some involvement with them) not indie? I understand "indie" is trendy now, but come on, all of these new bands actually WERE indie at one time.
You're not giving Modest Mouse the cred they deserve.

I hate them.
Hands down.
Listen to a good band. The Mars Volta. The lead singer in Mars Volta can sing. The lead singer in Coheed has a very small range when he sings. I don't think it's that impressive.

I'll post some when my ftp works again (should be any day now) in the MP3 of the week thread.
I love their sound and as stated above I love that each song is a part of the bigger picture in terms of the album. Then again I dont just listen to the music when I really love a song.. I also listen to the lyrics themselves.. I figure its musical poetry. =)
If anyone wants to hear any Coheed songs, let me know and I can put one up for download, though I think they have a few available through their website. Actually let me link to them:
Coheed and Cambria Discography / Media
Hehe.. I'd have to say my favorite two sing-alongs from their latest album is "A Favor House Atlantic" and "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3".. though I can listen to both albums over and over again and still not get tired of them.
My music collection is so huge and varied, though that I needa see if I have any Mars Volta (Friend wanted me to check them out but we ended up really getting into Coheed instead.. lets just say sing-alongs during EQ groups in LDoN to pass the time.. Im sure we annoyed many of our group members with that *lol*)

Suds, how is a band that wasn't successful or on any other radar other than "indie" radar not indie?Well, to be more technical, how is a band that was NOT signed before recently (except, I belive the E6 guys had some involvement with them) not indie? I understand "indie" is trendy now, but come on, all of these new bands actually WERE indie at one time.

Well, Modest has been on Epic (I think?) for awhile. Not exactly indie.
And of course they were all indie at one point. Every band that wasn't pre-fabricated for pop radio used to be indie. Not really the best point to make.
Modest Mouse sounds different enough from all of the overdone pop we've had lately that it stands out. As does Franz Ferdinand and...um...Jet I guess? I don't know...the White Stripes? The Strokes? Whatever. So now people try so hard to get away from pop that they're making another genre to get sick of.
I don't think a band deserves props just for being independent. I've heard some really, really shitty bands in my time. Anybody can throw a band together and call themselves indie (or hardcore or emo or [insert genre here]). It's not a badge of pride, even though people treat it like one (yay scenesters ). I dunno. I don't want to accuse you of anything, but your post makes it sound like you like these bands just because they sound indie. And, well, so does the rest of the world and that's fine, so long as you accept that there's really nothing indie about them. I don't even see what there is to defend here.
