I kept on forgetting to write up a review on this and see what the rest of ya'll thought.

This movie was the first movie in a long while to actually stun me in the theater. I just sat there the entire movie entranced by the amazingly talented voices in the movie. I was a fan of the original and this version is even better. The songs are all still the originals with the original lyrics and Andrew Lloyd Webber even wrote a new song for this version.

Overall, Men: If you want major points with your ladies, take them to see this. Ladies: Demand your men take you to this. Everyone else: See it if you like musicals.

What did everyone else think?

As I stated after being tricked into watching.

I can't wait to see it,

it was the first opera I saw, and I loved it... went to see it 6 more times!

I didn't get to go opening day oh well, I'll get there eventually.

I have always love Phantom of the Opera. I have seen the Broadway production 4 or 5 times. I was worried about the movie not living up to the stage show. I was glad to see how wrong I was. With the exception of a few nit-picky things I found it to be a perfect interpretation of the original.

Oh and It is not an Opera.

It's a musical, very very much so.

Opera = projecting voice into the large hall

Musical = using microphones to project voice into a smaller venue

And I've never been a big fan of them, or Webber.. Just a bit too melodramatic. I like subtle.

I've seen Phantom of the Opera in person and wasn't really impressed.

But then, I was like 8.

Not really an operetta either. An operetta is something like The Merry Widow. This is a musical.

I liked Phantom on Broadway. It was a wonderfully done musical. But unless you listened to all the lyrics you missed a lot of the back story. The movie fixed that. Although seeing it on Broadway is still the coolest place to see it, the movie definatly did the musical justice.

Maybe I'll drag Deth to see it. We had a choice yesterday between A Series of Unfortunate Events, Phantom of the Opera and Ocean's Twelve. We saw Ocean's Twelve, which was rather good I thought.

I can't wait to see it but I don't think it's here yet (it's still in limited release right?)

I'll have a tough time not singing along...

When I was really young, (8ish), I used to play the cassette every night until I memorized all the songs (that didn't take very long) but I kept on listening to it. One day my mom took me to Toronto (I was 11ish) and surprised me by taking me to see it. I was the HAPPIEST kid ever!

I cannot wait until I can see the movie!

I found myself wanting to sing along as well. I know pretty much every male part in the movie and most of the female lines.

'All I Ask of You' was (and sometimes still is) a lullabye I used on my daughters, I also sang it at my brother's wedding and made Mom cry.

Is it? It's playing here at Kerasotes and that's a pretty mainstream theater. S'not like Shaun of the Dead, which was only playing out in the backpit of nowhere here.

Will you be singing it?

And for the record, opera is hollering very persuasively in foreign languages. And fat old women pretending to be slender young waifs. Horned helmet optional.
